i always considered this place to have some of the smartest and most well behaved people in any forums i visit from time to time. but i cant help but notice that the amount of hateful, violent, ignorant, arrogant, racist and cheap comments on AT forums lately is just way too high compared to AT normal standards or even other tech forums i visit.
comments like "lets nuke them", "lets kill them all", "more target practice", "carpet bomb them", and many other derogatory comments that almost present other people as some form of sub humans with insignificant lives.
i am not here to present or defend anyone's political agenda, i am just sharing some of my thoughts.
i have just as much sympathy for the innocent victims that lost their own life or a loved one in NY, just as for the victims that suffer in Israel or Palestine daily for the last 50 years, which is by the way, neither side is completely innocent or inherently evil, i really am tired of media on both sides trying to present this conflict as good vs. evil. and just as much as i have sympathy for the 2 million that died in Afghanistan fighting a pointless war with the soviet union, or the people oppressed by their own governments anywhere. all people are equal, all people deserve just as much recognition.
i have to say that blind one-sided patriotism is just another and as equal form of terrorism, they are both extreme even when they know they are wrong, they both have little regard for the value of the human life of others, and they are both just as viscous toward a single minded goal.
i beg to ask all of you who might have made some of those comments, have you ever slowed down and tried to see the issue from the other side point of view? have you ever got over your arrogance and thought of what you would have done if you were born on the other side? what would you have done if you grew up in the shoes of your enemy? Please, ask yourself what would you have done first.
what i am trying to say, is be careful, for the next time that terrorist you are so eager to kill might you just be your very own self. times change and situation impose themselves upon us sometimes, and i find it extremely arrogant to desire killing someone, when you never faced their own reality, never experienced what its like to be on the other side, and was never faced with the same desperation that might have driven them.
i am not saying be sympathetic for the wrong causes, i am saying if we all think rationally we wouldn't be killing each other. terrorists aren't thinking rationally, and blinded patriotism for a single-minded cause isn't either.
as to the U.S. foreign policy debate, let there be no mistake, the U.S. did a lot more to make a good impact on the lives of others than otherwise. but there are things that need to be looked at again, lets use a simple ideology, as a super power, the U.S. will have to get involved in ways that might severely affect the lives of people in other nations, but how about adopting a balanced approach? either be fair to all sides or try not to get involved in the first place. i think that makes sense.
if you want a simple example, of why many people over seas think that some of the U.S. foreign policy is in balanced, just last April(i think?) the UN made a recommendation and agreed to deploy a neutral UN force in the west bank and Gaza strip, to protect the safety and uphold peace of both Israelis and Palestinians, and what happened? the U.S. put its veto in front of everyone faces, basically saying that the whole world is wrong.
