The district court in CO is the first to hold that the Dumpster is in fact an insurrectionist.

BUT, she wouldn't take him off of the primary ballot based on some seriously shaky reasoning.

I don't think even she believes her ruling. But by going this way, she leaves the heavy lifting to the appellate court and ultimately SCOTUS.

Her claim is basically that the exact wording of the presidential oath is slightly different from named offices (I think). Uhh, sure. Kinda a flimsy hook to hang your coat on, but it takes her out of the spotlight.

I would normally give Israel the benefit of the doubt on issue of Hamas hiding under hospitals.

But given the fact that they were completely clueless prior to 10/7, I have to question the accuracy of their intelligence.

What seems likely is that Hamas has just gotten really good at covering their tracks. So good that it can't be proven otherwise? That doesn't seem likely but this isn't exactly an episode of CSI.

This sort of funny but the D's want the media, left, right or whomever to start covering Trump as much as they can stand.

Why? Excellent question.

It seems that Trump has become something of a disembodied concept for most people rather than a clown with senile dementia. And they just feel sooo, terribly bad for the poor manchild, what with all those nasty criminal indictments. So maybe we should cut him slack.

P.T. Barnham put it best - one every minute.

A bit of legal trivia. If you ever go to a physical library trying to do some legal research, there's something you'll become very familiar with - the "pocket part."

"Books" with dozens of volumes have these inserts at the back cover. For example, things like Corpus Juris Secundum, annotated statutes, etc., would be useless without them.

Since the law is constantly changing and evolving (very incrementally of course), you can't really republish a 36 volume collection every few months. So each volume tends to encompass a very specific range of content which can be updated as necessary with pocket parts.

These are destined (if they aren't already) for oblivion since I'm pretty sure no one actually uses physical books any more. But the topic came up (obliquely) in the context of books written about J6. Since a lot of cases are ongoing and the full story probably won't be told for decades, the suggestion was . . . you guessed it - pocket parts.

If you're a fan of the 11pm show on MSNBC with Stephanie Ruhle, Michael Steele (former RNC chair) will be hosting starting in January.

I like looking at Stephanie, but I think she should go back to business reporting anyway.

I'm sure this was covered today but Trump's lawyers actually submitted an official court filing calling Jack Smith the Grinch. I'm a little fuzzy on the details but I'm sure it made headlines.

You may have heard that the CO Supreme Court has dictated that the Dumpster will not be allowed on the state's primary ballot.

Here's an interesting thought.

In both IA and NH, voters can switch parties to vote in the "other" primary.

Since the Ds nixed IA (praise Buddha), were I a D in that state, or NH, I'd switch to R and vote for Haley.

I really hope you didn't type that yourself. I'm guessing that somewhere in the bowels of the internet there must be some sort of "Trump translator." OMG, does google translate do that? They still have a sense of humor. I'll have to check.

Anyway. The more I think about it, the more I think SCOTUS is going to affirm the CO decision. Look at from their point of view. Say they weasel out of the correct decision and Trump goes on to win the election. I really believe that the last thing they want to do for 4 years of their lives is deal with this asshole. Why? When they can conduct his political execution now. Then they can get back to rewriting the constitution.

The problem is that both Clarence and Ginny lust for Trump. Either one of them would consider it a blessing to eat out of his diaper.

OK, I don't have any evidence for this, but I'm pretty sure it's true

The CO decision wasn't really 4-3. Nope. It was 7-0. Having each dissent SEEM to be in favor of just one of Trump's many ridiculous/bogus claims had the effect of highlighting how absurd that they are.

I can almost imagine them all in conference, vaping and drinking spring water. ''OK, so what are we doing? Make it 7-0 or at least pretend that there's some *ahem* legitimate objection.'

We really need to drop IA as an early primary state. The amount of attention paid to a state that is so out of touch with the rest of the country is ridiculous. There's a reason the Ds finally left that state in the dust - where it belongs.

It does make slightly more sense for the Rs to continue using that as their first primary. But here are the facts.

According to Pew, 28% of adult Iowans are "evangelical." Now granted, there are different flavors of evangelical, but this designation includes people who actually believe that the universe is only 6000 years old. And that's just one of their more ridiculous beliefs. The fact of the matter is that a good chunk of these folks have created their own alternate reality.

Are these the type of folks that should be picking presidents? Of course not. W/o their position in the primary schedule, they would be wholly irrelevant - and they know it.

Just some trivia for any politics wonks out there.

If you go to all 99 of the counties in IA, you've done what is called "a Grassley" - in honor of Chuck.

Vivek actually did a double Grassley.

Wow, the talking heads have been saying all along that deSantis had nothing, nada, zip after the hawkeye cauci. IOW, no significant campaign presence in either NH or SC.

I didn't pay a lot attention since I give less than a shit about deSantis, but they showed a recent NH poll where, at 5%, he trails Vivek at 8% and Christie at 12%.

In that poll, they had Haley just 7 points behind Orange Jesus. But since then, both Vivek and Christie are gone daddies. So that's 20% that is probably the "never Trump" vote.

Add that 20% to Haley's 32% and she blows the doors off of Trump's campaign (39%)

BTW, SCOTUS hears the CO appeal on the 9th next month. That means that, if they so choose, they can take the dumpster off of the ballot without screwing very much with the primary process.

That's my call. No one in the media seems to agree though.

They are kind of cornered. I expect them to just let the District Court immunity decision to stand (no immunity is what they will decide), but they will have to decide on this point. Pay back Trump for a cushy job with apparently no accountability (Trump appointees), plus Thomas, and Alito? Or bend over backwards to make the obvious not look so obvious.

Not to be a pedant, but they haven't been asked to take the immunity case - yet . . . yet (in the words of Moscow Mitch)

I watch cable news pretty much all day, every day. I record it so I don't have to deal with the Pampers and GLP1 ads. But still, it's a shit load of my time. Thankfully, I spend most of the 24 hours sleeping.

Anyway, even for me, some of this shit gets confusing.
