Just beaten Final Fantasy X last night...Damn..

No game has stirred up such emotions in me in a long time. The ending cinema is not only frickin' amazing graphically but emotionally. I racked up about 50 hours on the game. About 35-ish was on the actual game and the rest was hunting down the secrets. This was the longest Final Fantasy game I've ever played. And I know some people will say most of that time is "wasted" watching a movie, let me ask you this, "do YOU know how to tell a great storyline WITHOUT cutscenes, cinemas, and using mainly gameplay?" If you said yes, then you're total B.S.

This is really the only game worth buying at the moment for the PS2 in my opinion. I didn't really like MGS2, Devil's May Cry, or GT3

I agree. FF6 was a great story. You don't need all those extras to tell a great story (and lots of people agree since FF6 is regarded as the best FF by many).

Personally, I loved FF8 (and 7 but it a lesser extent) and the cutscenes were great so I don't disagree but the extras aren't essential to telling a story. In fact, I kinda feel that you're not as involved in the story when they're there.

Go back and play the game dude. There were obviously no movies but there were obviously A LOT of talking. What set FF3 apart was that it allowed free movement. You can explore the map as you go along without being confined to a linear path. They took that away from the recent FF series but does that really help the overall storyline by letting you wander? Plus you can't really compared FF3's story to the recent FF. I mean FF3 was a very simplistic storyline. There were no way to convey emotions graphically and it's really hard to do it with only text. But of course that is now possible with the more powerful systems. You're only noticing it more now because it seems to be a big issue with a lot of people. Try to go back and play FF3. You'll notice there are a lot more dialogue than you think.

yes 50 hours is nothing. That wasn't the point. Most of the time people exaggerate or for some reason take so long to beat a game. Whenever someone quote a time it takes to beat the game, I usually cut it in half and that is the average time it'll take for me to beat it. So it's really rare for me to spend more than 20 hours in an RPG game. This one took 50 hours which is pretty rare. The only one to surpass it was Xenogears which probably took 60+ hours.

perhaps for Mystic Quest.

Personally I agree that FF3 was truly a great game...at the time that is. I played that game so many times and absolutely LOVED it. But now when I try to get myself to play it again, I couldn't. It's just not the same. It's like Michael Jordan. Years ago he was absolutely the BEST. But now it's really hard to gauge where he's at and many people didn't really want him to come back. So in regards to FF3, yes it's really good back then but don't keep telling yourself it was the best and there's no way to surpass it. You're the one losing out on the newer gems.

I liked the story of FFX, the ending left me with a TON of questions though. What sucks is, Square is releasing a new FFX called Final Fantasy X International that comes with a bonus disc with extra stuff, including an extended CGI ending called "Eternal Peacetime" that is set a few years after the US version ends, that shows what happened to the characters. That disc is not coming out in the US. I hope I can find an mpeg of Eternal Peacetime when it comes out, I really want to know what goes on with the story.

You said without cinema and cutscenes so I gave you the example of FF3. You're right about the fact that there are a lot of talking, but you said tell a great story. It needs words and dialog. I think FF3 back in the day can summon the same amount of emotion as FFX can today. Graphics have nothing to do with it, imagination does

by cutscenes, i also mean shifting from gameplay and having dialogues wise guy and like i said, you can't compare ff3 to ff10. are you the exact same person today as you were years ago playing ff3? nope. unless you were able to play ff3 and ff10 for the first time in the same time period, it's hard to say. personally my taste has matured and i prefer the love theme present in the more recent FF series.

I dunno. I loved FF3 (favourite game of all time.) and liked ff7. But ff8 was garbage (only played about 8 hours or so) and FF9 got boring.

It just didn't hold my interest. I hope ff10 is better.

Final Fantasy III (US) is definitely the best Final Fantasy game ever.

They were all good, in their own ways, though.

I liked FF2(US) better than FF3(US). Don't get me wrong, FF3(US) is most excellent but I like the previous one better.

ff6 (3US) was probably my fave but ff4 (2US)is close. 7 was pretty good, 8 was sort of fun, it was just a challenge to me to get all the stuff (over 100 hours, i drew 100 of all spells for all chars, got all but like 6 items, etc etc.), but 8 didnt deserve to have the FF name. 9 was garbage. it was made for an 8 year old or something. hopefully 10 will be cool but already the graphics look retarded, the main character looks dumb ( WTF IS UP WITH ALL OF THE SPIKEY HAIR FOR THE LOVE OF GOD), but it looks like they've innovated the battle system ('bout time) and there is no overworld map, just point to point travel (a la secret of mana, etc.)

either way it'll be a while till i play it because i dont have a ps2. my next game will be hoshigami.

lately i've been playing 6 and 7 again, i'm basically at the end of 6, leveling to 99 w/ all my people, and on 7 i'm at cosmo canyon currently.

My bro and I use to race each other to see how fast and how low a level we could beqat FF2. Then we figgured out how to raise the other guys level with out putting work into them. That made things a lot easier and faster. hell we even came across the ultra rare pinkpuff off FF2. Odd of getting it are like a million to one. Never saw it again though. I do not think we spent more then 30 hours on a FF game to pass it. We usualy waltz through the story first, then start again and get all the littel secretes.

wrong about the pink puff, i've fought them 20-40 times. now, getting a pink tail, that is a million to one. actually i think it's 128 or 256 to one, but nonetheless when coupled with the rareness of a pink puff, getting their tail is damn hard.

FF6's story was great, but emotionally, it is nothing compare to FFX. I think it even best my favorite FF6 scene, the opera house scene. (Imagine how that would be like with real vocal?) And I just love Yuna's ending speech. (I played the game in Japanese, so maybe the English version isn't so great anymore, so don't think I'm crazy if she says something stupid ) To me, you just can't tell a serious story about life and love and dreams if you have characters with heads bigger than their body that zips across the screen in under 1/2 second constantly bouncing around without leg movement.

If they remake FF6 with FFX's technology, that would be something to see
