<< FF6's story was great, but emotionally, it is nothing compare to FFX. I think it even best my favorite FF6 scene, the opera house scene. (Imagine how that would be like with real vocal?) And I just love Yuna's ending speech. (I played the game in Japanese, so maybe the English version isn't so great anymore, so don't think I'm crazy if she says something stupid ) To me, you just can't tell a serious story about life and love and dreams if you have characters with heads bigger than their body that zips across the screen in under 1/2 second constantly bouncing around without leg movement.

If they remake FF6 with FFX's technology, that would be something to see
>>

well people said the same type crap about 7, 8, and 9, but IMO they are wrong.

i doubt square all of a sudden got their act together for 10, but i could be wrong.

thank you. my point exactly.

<<Why not?

Is this not allowed in the FF fanboy universe?

(And no, that wasn't a stutter. ) >>

because the question was asked in regards to an RPG game.

that statement sounds like you didn't even personally give the game a chance before having such a negative opinion of it.

Haven't posted in a very long time here at Anandtech, but I came across this thread...

Final Fantasy 3 is the absolute best in my opinion, it made me cry when the world came to an end, and the first time I played, I didn't rescue Cid, so he died. Celes was so lonely, and had almost no hope in the world, on an island to herself, with no one else. It was very sad for her not to say a word, and just read the letter and move on with her life to look for her friends. I was about 9 years old when I played Final Fantasy 3 for the first time... I must have spent at least 1000 hours in the game, I used to rent it once a month and beat it for about a year. I could write a book on what happened.

Final Fantasy 7 was very interested, although it wasn't emotionally involving. The graphics were very simplistic and left room for imagination, and the cut scenes were brilliant. Final Fantasy 8 was garbage, I couldn't stand the crappy battle system. Final Fantasy 9 was excellent IMHO, as it went back to the good ol' medieval times, and mixing it with "futuristic" ideas. I liked the battle system in it too, it excited me to gain levels, instead of making me turn away because it sucked to fight.

Chrono Trigger was also very good, in fact, I am playing it right now and just got the Time Egg.

No you don't need cut scenes, if you have good imagination you can make the cut scenes yourself I just can't do that to computer games, but console games I can get totally wrapped up in, because I don't have to sit with a keyboard w/ 1000 controls, and a mouse. The simplistic controls help with the joining of person and game.

well i havent concluded anything, but i don't expect it to be good. i've gotten burned by square too many times lately.

it used to be, i'd buy every square game no matter what, because i knew they'd be good. now it's a hit and miss thing.

DonNiggera: I was about 9 when playing ff6(3) also, and CT is the sh!t too

i grew up on this stuff

FF3(6) does an excellent job of creating mood/emotion through the use of good music and lots of conversation. And I'm forced to admit that like others who have said, Cid died and it pulled at me. My second time playing through, I was determined to have Cid survive. I felt sorry for Terra not being able to love and try to figure herself out in Mobliz. Same goes for Cyan and his dream sequence. Check your 3d rendered graphics at the door, I'll take my revolutionary (in the day) 16-bit color and be happy to play a game where gameplay/storyline was more important than the graphics (the trend I see too much in today's games).

Adul: how fast does 14:08 and Cecil's level=55 sound for you? I'm sure it's nothing impressive, but I love FF2(4).

Have any of you played FF 2 and FF 3 on the NES? You need an emulator and a patched ROM to play them in English, however. Also, if you care, don't pass up FF 5 on the SNES (also needing a patched ROM to play in English).

I've not played 2 and 3 that much, but I was impressed with FF 5. It had a character system similiar to FF Tactics, which made it more "interactive" as far as character development. Secret of Mana 3 (also a emulator only deal) is another one to check out.

Just for the record, I loved FF 4 and FF 6 on the SNES, didn't care much for FF 7 or FF8, but I like FF 9. Looking forward to playing FF X, but can't afford $300 at the moment for a PS2.
