For all the CRT nuts out there I'd just like to inform you they have a the 22" Dell P1230 Diamondtron SuperBright going for $269, shipped, thanks to the free shipping. I just ordered, and I have my fingers crossed it arrives without any problems, although from everything I've read Azatek.com seems reputable enough. I'll be sure to let everyone know how the monitor works out.

yeah, I kind of read that after I'd ordered it (whoops) but since I don't know what off-lease inventory means, I'll just assume it means it's extra kick-ass.

Lets see, it says at the top "New in stock!"
Then the details they mention it is used, and 6 month exchange warranty.
Talk about misleading.

They also say "This product has been tested and validated on Dell systems to ensure it will work with your computer. It is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell system."

Um yeah... hope it works out well for you though.

I paid $65 for my used diamondtron, but ymmv. These old CRTs are coming out of most commercial users and the business is actually charged to have them removed, then refurb joints turn around and try to sell them. If the monitor is fubar who pays for the shipping?

Well, Azatek says if it is defective then they pay for the shipping. I looked up what off-lease means and it just means "used". I've worked in offices and such many times and the monitors in the cubicles are usually in excellent condition, so that doesn't worry me.

A couple of days ago, I read that the new nVidia 6800GS video card doesn't work with Trinitron or Diamondtron tubes. I don't know if it true or not (I don't have a Trinitron, Diamondtron, or 6800GS, so I didn't research the claim), but you may want to check if you have a 6800GS and are considering this Diamondtron CRT.

That's almost guaranteed to have been a driver bug, since official support for the 6800GS is only about 1 driver old. I mean, I don't have any 68GS's around to test or anything, but I remember reading "support for 6800gs" added on the new nvidia drivers.

the only big crt I would even consider as of now would be the sony FW900 or the HP imitation of it. A 19"-21" lcd wouldn't of costed that much more and would barely be any difference as far as viewable screen goes.

sure, that's all well and good but no LCD can beat a CRT for image quality in gaming. Perfect black levels are essentials for all the new "dark" games like Doom 3 Engine games, Thief series and pretty much any freaking FPS coming out nowadays... not to mention no native resolution, and no ghosting. And yeah, I LAN a LOT, usually twice a month, and I see tons of LCD's during them that range from high-end models to low-end, and while the high-end models all have incredible sharp brightness and definition, they all have noticeable motion blur which gives them a kind of "PS2" look. Plus, a 22" LCD would be murder on the wallet...

Of course, it's not like I'm gonna lug around the diamondtron to my LAN's or anything, I use a 15" ProView for that... so yeah, an LCD would be useful for such occasions.

I will soon have my HP P1130 (rebadged Sony Trinitron) for sale. It was manufacturered in May 2003. If anyone is intersted, let me know. It is in pristine condition (just one minor buff on the top of the plastic).

I ran it at 1600 x 1200 @ 100Hz and it has been wonderful. It also has 2 vga (D-sub) inputs

I bring my 22" Diamondtron to LAN parties. whats the big deal? its not that its heavy, its just so darn fat that your elbows stick way out and you can see where your going. make sure they have a space set out for you on a sturdy desk before you bring it in. you'll be the most popular guy there. its great seing peoples reactions when you walk into the room with it "DUDE THAT IS A HOUSE!" "DO YOU LIVE IN THAT THING?" 'you're going to break the desk!" "do the lights dim when you degauss it?" its great fun. my monitor is offcially know as "the house" among my friends

I've gotten CRT's from Azatek before. The one I have at home is a 21" something. I can't remember, and not at home atm. But It was like $180 Shipped, and it is in excellent condition. I'm wanting to get a fw900.

Those FW900's look sweet, and Azatek's selling 'em for something like $460 shipped (free shipping). I seriously considered going for the FW900 instead of this Diamondtron, but I want a new video card too, heh.

How much juice do these take up compared to sizeable LCDs? This thread is making me miss my CRT and it wasn't even very good!
