Hello,
I just purchased an Asus RT-AC66U router from Newegg. I hooked it up to a brand new Motorola MB7420 16x4 686 Mbps DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. All seemed well. The setup was easy and the GUI on the router is very fast and easy to use. Well, I'm not writing a review, so the issue at hand is electrical noise. I have Ubuntu server hardwired to the router and whenever I transfer files from my laptop via WiFi to the server it makes a very prominent electrical noise. It sounds like coil whine or zapping. It happens whenever a lot of bandwidth is being used via WiFi also, whether I'm downloading or uploading. I can hear it like 15 feet (5m) away. I've tried changing the channels on 5ghz and 2.4. I also experimented with the bandwidth frequency.
The noise persists no matter what I do. I've read pretty much every review on Newegg and no one seems to be saying anything about this noise.
Is this normal? Also should I RMA while I'm still in the 30 day period? Just need a few opinions here...
