I just bought a canon i960 printer.

Now I want to buy this

Ink for i960 canon printer

Will the print quality be the same for photographs and regular text?? Will the cartidges work just as good as canon's?

Someone please let me know. I've looked up several threads in the forums but didn't find a definitive answer.

If someone has got this ink from this person please let me know how it works!

I can tell you this myself and two other buddies bought this same printer a year ago, both of them decided to use SUPER cheap ink, both of them bought from EBAY. One used refill kits while the other bought something similar to these. Long story short, they saved a ton of money and now neither of their printers are working while mine is still humming along. The Canon cartridges are best and they are cheaper then most...just buy the right ones.

BUT THIS NEEDS TO BE MOVED

I've been serviceman for many dozen Canon printers over the years. Nobody, repeat nobody, has ever saved a single cent by using cheap ink ... on the bottom line.

Of course I was being sarcastic when I said "They saved a ton of money" lol yeah compared to my $11.99 per cartridge, they were paying like $1.99 per cartridge but like I said, they paid for it in the long run by having to buy new printers.

To the OP, this is an often asked question, with only opinions as answers.

Stock Canon cartridges ... This is what I stick with. Not too expensive ($40 a set for my 4 color I850 = lasts me 5/6 months), as good a color match as the drivers can offer, mine has never clogged (since 1994 with the BJC600 / about 3 years with the I850).

Refills or After market ... Results can vary greatly so look for recommendations. cartridges for as low as $2 each. Refills can be even cheaper if you use it all. Colors ?may? be a little off, but you can compensate. If you print enough even if it clogs eventually you come out even or ahead. Canon printheads are replaceable if the cost is less than a replacement printer at that time.

Leave the thread up for awhile or repost later if you don't get specific after market ink recomendations. There are several posters here that use after market inks exclusively.

Here's a thread the refers to "swift ink" http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=30&threadid=1737010&enterthread=y You could PM the posters for thier experience.

Many found that cheaper inks that are working well actually contain less ink, eliminating the cost advantage. 3rd party replacements for Canon BC-21 and BC-24 cartridges are particularly guilty of this - cost half as much, last half as long. Duh.

Those that went for REALLY cheap ink or even DIY refills ALL ended up buying new printers or at least print heads. No exceptions, zero. Top scorer was the guy whose refill syringe exploded on him because he was pushing too hard - his bottom line: several expensive books binned, shirt and pants beyond cleaning, and redecoration of the entire room. He'll never save anywhere near as much on ink, ever.

so what your saying is canon compatible cartidges will eventually clog the printheads, but not canon ink cartidges? huh??

Depends. If you go super cheap, super high risk of damaging the printer comes along. I've had good success w/ cheaper cartridges but I've tried many 3rd party cartridges before deciding on a particular brand. Don't know about the one you've linked from ebay. But it's cheap.

This question on if third party inks or third party cartridges clog my Canon printhead has been discussed to death on
numerous forums. The general concenus answer is no especially with dye based inks. But sooner or later a printhead will burn
up with continual use.

The bigger risk is that the printhead will clog due to long periods of no use.---equally risky with OEM or non-oem cartridges.

For the risk adverse, use OEM cartridges during warranty, afterward switch to a known good brand. I use cartridges from
www.bulkinkjetcarts.com--------but see the nifty stuff forums for the answers to the head clog problems and the choices other users make. . Head clogging happens but not often with known good brands-----and users over there using MIS inks in high volume use are getting huge volumes of printing done with absolutely no head clogging.

But they do warn against one ink brand that bio-degrades over time. And also watch out for generic refill kits vs.
refill kits with inks formulated as Canon color compatable. With the former, you don't know what you are getting
and running pigmented ink through dye based ink printheads will cause big problems.

I agree with much of what xgsound said,

I also note there are some users passionate about swiftink and quite a number of other brands. But another factor
not mentioned is the photopaper used-------its often as an important or more important than the ink used. With some
ink showing very good results with one paper and very poor results with another paper.

Lots of variables, but when you find something that works, stick with it.-----but another warning about using non-oem ink is that you may get great results with one order----and poor resuklts with the next because your vendor switched suppliers. Which is why I like to have a toll free telephone number and friendly vendors who answer questions.

Another question not addressed in this thread is how long the print last before fading. And there OEM ink is probably always slightly better.

Can't void warranty for use of 3rd party tanks - that's the law. Almost impossible to clog an i or iP series Canon unless you leave an ink tank out of it too long, store it improperly for a long time or power it off with a power strip instead of its own power button (may not park the print head properly). Clogs are for Epsons...

This is the worst thread filled with FUD.

Use quality third party ink and you will never have a problem with clogging or damage to the printer.

1. alotofthings.com

2. Hobbicolors { sold on ebay } their site: http://www.hobbicolors.com/

3. MIS http://www.inksupply.com

4. swiftink.com

Also check this site: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/

PS: with the IP4000 selling for $50 as a clearance right now it's hard to claim it's really expensive.

PSS: The picture quality will be the same using good paper. Costco sells Kirkland glossy photo paper, 125 sheets for $18.99, they also have a 300 pack of 4 x 6 for $14.

I'm making good money repairing printers for those people who wouldn't listen. No FUD there, mate, just actual results.

If a $50 printer breaks you just buy another $50 printer unless it is still within the 1 year warranty. The printhead in some is more then the printer.

The IP4000 is $100 with a $50 rebate right now, $100 - $50 = $50. This is a great printer !!!!!!!

The only one that might be worth fixing is the IP8500 which is $349.

I've used Canon for 8 years and always use 3rd party ink from http://alotofthings.com/ it is:
All of the bulk inks and refill kits we carry contain ink manufactured by Sensient Imaging Technologies, Formulabs Division - also known as Formulabs for short.

Formulabs is well tested by plenty of users.

Recently I've bought carts from swiftink.com and they are pretty good with excellent service.
