You don't need any software to play hulu. You can use the browser in the PS3.
Hopefully soon you won't need anything for netflix streaming either. It looks like they are working on a solution.

I guess that depends on how you look at it. You can stream Netflix now, those of us without PlayOn, can't.

I suppose that depends on how many games you have and how much they install on the hard drive. I think the 160 GB should be plenty for just about anyone, and the 80 GB should be good too. DLC doesn't consume a lot of space. Usually ~1 GB for a demo and less for anything else. My 40 GB drive has been fine so far, but I don't have any games that require installation.

Nah, I've got lot of music, several high-res background pics, a few movies, and own around 20 games and my usage is like 66GB still (just backed it up recently). I'd just use it for awhile and if you get close to the 80GB limit, just upgrade then. It's not like hard drives are going up in price.

That said, I have a 320GB drive in mine because I bought a used launch 20GB console.

Just thought i'd chime back in. I've been using ps3 media server on my ubuntu 9.04 linux server for about 2 weeks now. It has worked flawlessly.

I'm going to have to try this software. Currently using Tversity without issues, but I like to try new stuff and everyone here seems to like it.

I just installed PS3 media server and it is the most stupid simple software I think I have ever used. My server is down for the moment so I tested it on my notebook. Installed the software and required Java. Add a folder to share. Turn on PS3, scan for media servers, play movie. It really is that simple.
