I found Uncle Ben's rices of the world White Rice to be very good and makes great sticky rice.

Well, far be it for me to defend a rice cooker but, if the guy is living in a dorm without a stove a rice cooker might not be a bad idea.
I agree though, I can make perfect rice on the stovetop using a medium sized sauce pan with a lid. To me a rice cooker is a perfectly useless device.

Many people enjoy convenience. I can start-up the rice cooker, go run errands, go running and bring the dog to the dog park and not have to worry about cooking rice in a sauce pan.

Zatarin's - for the lazy or time constrained.Plain rice is about as bland as one can get. Now, it is EXCELLENT at soaking up delicious flavors when prepared in Cajun or Mexican food.
