I've got a rice cooker too, it's called a pot, and cooks other thing as well.

Well, far be it for me to defend a rice cooker but, if the guy is living in a dorm without a stove a rice cooker might not be a bad idea.

I agree though, I can make perfect rice on the stovetop using a medium sized sauce pan with a lid. To me a rice cooker is a perfectly useless device.

Me and my gf like alot of rice. We each have one at our houses (that exact model). Works great for us to cook a meals worth of rice and then some. Much easier to the fact I can go on and prepare the chicken or beef going with the meal instead of fussing with the rice. Here's a dish me and the girl make that's pretty simple and quite delicious.

White Rice in the rice cooker
About 8 Tyson chicken tenderloins, thawed
Sauteed in a cast iron skillet in a little canola oil for a few minutes on each side, salt and pepper to taste.
Put in the oven at 350 for 20minutes.
Remove from the oven and put the chicken on a warm covered plate to rest. Then take one whole vidalia onion and one whole bell pepper (whatever color you like) and once can of mushrooms (you can also use fresh if you like) and sautee them for a few minutes in the rendered chicken fat and perhaps a little extra canola depending on how much grease you have to work with. Salt and pepper the veggies to taste.
Make some brown gravy, about 4 cups worth, whether jarred, packaged, or home made.

Assembly:

Lay a healthy bed of rice (about 3 of the paddles)
Lay 4 chicken strips acrossed the bed of rice
Pile the vegies high
Pour brown gravy over the mix
Finally, put slices of mozarella cheese over it to melt, or use the finally shredded mozarella bag mix.
ENJOY

Makes about 2-4 plates depending on how hungry you are. Parents normally eat 2 strips worth and one paddle of rice, my girl will do 2-3...I always do 4-5 .

Me and the girl got really bored one day of lunch choices so i came up with this just off the top of my head thinking of what tastes good mixed together.

I have a basic Rival rice cooker and it works just fine.

I found Uncle Ben's rices of the world White Rice to be very good and makes great sticky rice.

I use the rice cooker for steaming veggies as well.

And now I know what I'm making for dinner.

Enjoy it and let me know how it comes out for you . Just remember to give credit if you post it somewhere else .

Check that temperature, it should be 350, it's whatever the tyson bag says for the temperature, and do that for about 20min. Due to the college's finicky fire alarm I haven't made it in about 2 months so my memory is a bit rusty as to that exact temp.

And this was done in a gas oven, just in case some elitist would like to know that .

Yup. I bought my zojirushi almost 4 years ago and it's awesome. Love the timer to start cooking an hour before I get home from work. Nice, yummy warm rice waiting for me right when I walk in.

One night I also turned it in to make rice and totally forgot about it all night until lunch the next day. Opened it up and the rice was just as good as any other time.

I love the reviews - 1 Star, "It doesn't hold 6 cups...I put in 6 cups and there in no room for water..." /facepalm....
My previous rice cooker came with a 1 'cup' measuring cup. It holds about .6 cups as with water, it becomes 1 cup.

And I use the Justin Wilson method. Put rice in (using my rice 'cup'). Spray on some olive oil (boil 'easer'). Add water to my first knuckle above the rice. Bring to a boil (no finger in the water). Cover and put on low for 30 minutes.

But I do wish I had a rice cooker as I made Chicken Curry for our holiday lunch today and a crockpoint for cooked rice is kind of lame.

Many people enjoy convenience. I can start-up the rice cooker, go run errands, go running and bring the dog to the dog park and not have to worry about cooking rice in a sauce pan.

Yeah, as long as you don't get distracted and forget about it like I do sometimes.

Or have other things to cook to go with your rice ^_^.

Yeah It's nice putting on some rice to go with some leftover steak, and go out and play with Slade awhile while it cooks, instead of constantly stirring and turning the rice.

Plain rice is about as bland as one can get. Now, it is EXCELLENT at soaking up delicious flavors when prepared in Cajun or Mexican food.
