I thought you guys could buy beer and other booze in grocery stores and corner stores everywhere down there? Lucky bastards.

KT

Not, save some recent and small exceptions, across the length and breadth of the beautiful and verdant Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Also, in a slew of states mostly but by no means entirely confined to the Bozo Bible Belt South, it goes county by county -- some "dry", some "wet."

In many of the dry counties, no alcohol can be served or sold at all, and slaves are still owned.

No. it's generally county to county.

Hilariously, Jack Daniels is distilled in a dry county. You can take the tour, but no samples allowed. They will take you up to the mash bin or whatever, and lift the lid for you to get a healthy whiff.

That is a damn good Mead from Dansk Mjod. I love the mead with a little bit of hibiscus and hops in it!

That said, my favorite is a very very potent sack mead called Jadwiva Apis Poltorok... around 40 proof, and aged for pretty much forever... so fvckin good

Where can I get mead? does Berkeley Bowl sell mead?

I need some mead to accompany me through my next Skyrim session.

:hmm:

I went to the distillery! It was awesome fun, the local restaurants in the local town will sell you a coke, without JD and then you can buy some JD as a condiment for your food, which you then pour in the coke. Lolz.

I guess most of the areas I have travelled to and needed alcohol outside of normal drinkin' hours, allowed sales in the local AM/PM, 7-11, or Daycare facility.

We have 'Cold Beer & Wine' stores here where you can buy booze on weekends and late into most evenings. Not exactly sure why they chill of the wine they have on sale; must be part of their licensing agreement or something. :hmm:

Well that's ridiculous.

Did anyone say Mjød?

Skål!

Yea, my keyboard doesn't have those funny characters since I'm a yank. Anyhow, Dansk Mjod is awesome. I have tried several of their drinks, all are excellent.

If you come back to IL, I have about 30 bottles of sack Mead that I brewed left over. It's been aged about 1 year. (Out of two different 5 gallon batches.)
I plan to brew another batch starting in the spring...

Otherwise, I can tell you about 10 stores in Illinois that carry Mead.

Cost Plus World Market, is there one of those out by you? I think I've seen mead at one of the ones around me before.

Please be aware, there are a variety of meads out there, some are good, some are not real meads and are horrible.

The absolute worst one that I've ever had is without a doubt, Bunratty Meade. If you see that shit, break the bottles in the store so that nobody foolishly buys it thinking it's Mead.

The best I've had is the Jadwiga, but anything by Dansk Mjod is very very good as well.

Chaucers is like the watered down mainstream mead, it's not bad, but IMO nothing too special. Otherwise, it's possible if there's any Apiory's near you, they might brew their own mead, or I'm sure there's gotta be a number of winery's in CA, some of them may brew mead on the side too...

It's not exactly common in America, but there are a few stores that take pride in carrying a wide selection of brews from places all over the globe... I suspect there's probably only 1 or 2 distributors in my state who carry their products, but, I have had great luck with a chain called Binny's Beverage Depot. They have different distributors by county, so if one store doesn't have something, there's a chance a different store will ... I have 3 different stores in 3 different counties to choose from, so usually can find just about anything

VOMMIT! This is just white wine with honey added to it. GARBAGE!

Most available/common that I've seen. Decent low end mead.

Nom Nom Nom!

This one's pretty good, though not much better than the Chaucers IMO

This isn't too bad, and it's cheap!

Ehh, not for me. Meads with too much fruit juice added = icky, though in one of my homebrew batches, I did put some pineapple, just a little bit though ... and it is pretty hard to notice at all.

Well, I'll check BevMo and I bet Berkeley Bowl has a few options.

BevMo is the west coast version of Binny's.

Ha, my brother lives in Chicagoland and brews his own mead. He was asking me about going to the farmer's market and see about getting honey from the beekeepers there. I know he was looking for around 30 lbs and wanted to try getting it more locally.

And now we know more about the vicinity where you live. It's only a matter of time now Broheim.

crap, so if I've been putting the city I live in in my info, and I have a real picture of me for my avatar, does that mean it's a matter of time for me too? or no, because of my avatar picture and where I live? I mean, I would totally go to Denmark on vacation, would need to go to Norway too to meet family members whom I've never met (they are from Kristiansund, but have spread out since about 100ish years ago when my great grandma and grandpa immigrated to the USA, so now they are in Oslo, Trondheim, and Kristiansund)

I just cracked open the Viking Blod. First time I've had it. It packs a punch for mead.
