Hi, after so many problems that I had yesterday with the power issue, I got the system already now. Now there is a new problem. The mobo doesn't detect the keyboard at all.

I tried two keyboards already. When I plug in the keyboard, I see the light from the keyboard.

Does anybody know what's wrong with it?

I am using Soyo mobo P41 Fire Dragon with Intel P4 1.6

thanks

Are you able to access BIOS?...or the keyboard not recognized from the start?

The keyboard PS/2 port on the MB may be defective.

Specifically, the message "The Keyboard is locked out - unlock the key" keeps showing. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

In addition to the keyboard error, the following message also shows during boot up:
"CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded."

CMOS was cleared, but it did not solve the issue. Please advise again. Thanks and much appreciated.

I am not sure if I pulled up the right manual online. But on page 27 of the manual I am looking at it has some pins for connecting a keyboard lock. If your case has a keyboard lock on the front try unlocking it. Otherwise you should check that the keyboard lock pins are set the right way. I am not sure if there needs to be a jumper across the pins if no lock is present or if they need to be left open.

SilentRunning,

Thanks for the input. I'm using Enermax case for my P4 system, which does not have a keyboard "lock." The motherboard (Soyo P4I-Fire Dragon) has a keyboard lock jumper, but nothing is currently connected to it.

The same problem on my dad's computer. Unfortunately I think there is a problem with the motherboard.

Whenever my dad starts his computer, it will say "Keyboard error, no keyboard found or none present"

What he has to do is unplug the keyboard and plug it back in and restart his computer. Then it usually works. Sometimes he just tips the computer and wiggles the connection and it starts working.

He is using a PS/2 keyboard as well.

I had the exact same problem with another computer that is a pentium 133 in a micro case. The bios would always say keyboard error, locked. I could not find the problem so I ended up giving up and replacing the motherboard.

There was a known problem with the Dragon plus for the AMD platform. It showed that the HD header was actually where the Keylock header was. Try unhooking the HD light header and see if it boots up then.

Can't you just turn off keyboard detection in the BIOS? That way it will skip the keyboard part but Windows (and DOS) may still work properly.

I can't go to the BIOS since I can't even press the del button on the keyboard. Is there anyway we can go to the BIOS without the keyboard? thanks

Most mobos come with extra jumpers, have you tried to get a jumper and put it on the pins to see if that does it since they don't have one on there?

yes I did, but no luck. I used the extra jumper to close the two pins for the keyboard lock but no luck at all.

anybody else please.... I think I'm gonna have to return the mobo.

totally sucks....
