Is there anything specific one can do when the entire pad of their thumb is one large blister? keeping it in cold water helps, but taking it out is unbearable...

Bandages and generous amounts of burn gel/cream will do wonders. Pop the blister, remove dead skin, and apply the cream and the bandage.

It can be bad if you pop the blister and leave it. Now bacteria can get in underneath the dead skin and cause alot of problems.

I dinno I usually leave em if they are small/ not likely to get poped. If they are likely too, I generally pop em, and clean em up.

ok huys, I am nowhere near the blister popping stage. I am still deep into the "try not to pass out" stage.

Real men burn their hands on purpose in order to build their pain threshold. Then they play "whack the kneecap" with sledgehammers.

Why are you trusting ATOT to help you with medical problems? If the pain is as unbearable as you say it is, call a doctor already.

Well, I have a lot of experiences with 2nd and 3rd degree burns, I'm only giving you my first-hand advice. Your current method will leave you in pain longer than just getting it cleaned and bandaged with a cream. The cream is an excellent pain reliever (it will sting at first and then feel muuuch better.) It will also help to repair the damage more quickly.

Naw, he should self-medicate with alcohol.

In other news, the life expectancy of the average kitten went way up recently...

I tried, I don't have a doc here yet, it is a Friday afternoon, and they won't talk to you unless you are already a patient. My only option is to go to the urgent care, but I am not in any condition to drive.

Pics? This sounds more serious than what I originally pictured, or you're a puss.

Go pick up a plate with your thumb and whatever the finger next to it is. Now, see how it comes in contact with most of the pad of the thumb and then parts of it down to the base? That is all one shallow blister (has not filled up yet).

What I would do is put some burn cream on it (usually aloe). That stuff does wonders. Maybe you should check a medical website, though. Like WebMD maybe?

That does sound painful, but I still suggest bandages and cream. A blister or blisters in that area are bound to pop accidentally, again and again. With a well applied bandage, you don't have to worry about it, and it will feel better. Most burn creams have a topical pain reliever and produce a cooling effect. The cream will also prevent hideous scars. Change the bandage once a day and clean the site, apply more cream, and you will also prevent infection. A doctor will do the same thing for you and give you the same instructions.
