Modest,
I hear ya. I'm a big player of the wait and see game. I don't want to buy today and hear the next day of new stuff.

Hey, if DDR4 does appear guess how long until the price drops below $100/GB not to mention the motherboard wait and the memory controllers in the CPUs?

I am waiting for the ddr4 shoe to drop so we all have to upgrade yet again. There are very reasonable 890fx chipset boards out there. Biostar has one its like $119

You forgot the whole AM4 socket and then newer super chipset, LMAO.
With background noise about "quad channel" ram, DDR4 would be the perfect terminology for it.

Sry Bupkus about longer post, wasn't how deep of an explanation how to go through to help. Decided last winter to ditch the DDR2 framework and start the rollup then. Just trying to be moderately prudent with spending $$ vs. longevity. There are nice ECS, Biostar, ASRock, cheaper alternatives, just not the right balance of performance on value I was willing to compromise to. 8 consecutive builds with Biostar wasn't easy to grab something else. The $119 mobo is a mATX, not full size. This will be my first WC build around this board and wanted to be able to go full x16 x2 Crossfire, not just x16 +x8 like all the Biostars. Power phase was the other important factor, many reasons all around really. Have had this board up on air breaking in before I try some OC this weekend. Have been very pleased so far. Next month will be planning for my HAF X case and WC list, so be looking for suggestions when I pop that thread out, all input welcome, even to tell me I am rude crude and my mama dresses me funny in combat boots!

DDR4 SDRAM will be the successor to DDR3 SDRAM. It was revealed at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco, 2008, that it is currently in the design phase and has an expected released date of 2012.[1]

Hey... just in time for the end of the world!

<spoken in a solemn voice>
Modest, it would appear you'll be waiting forever... for DDR4.

Looks like the regular ATX is going for $149 from biostar. 890fx chipset and loads of IO options though.

no usb 3.0 onboard.

$189 MSI has a nice board thats fiarly loaded. usb 3.0 blah blah blah.

Not terrifically exspensive.

the 79x chipsets get down to 69.99 but are pretty stripped down boards. If you have alot of pci and pcie accessorie cards then its not a big deal IMHO. If you don't then the extra features are actually a nice cost saver.

You know its comming. questions is when. 2012 sounds like a interesting time to come with all the new tech comming out.

I remember when...
back at ASU when the 286 came out and clocked all the way up to 12MHz and then back when PCMagazine was 3/4" thick with ads with a cover page that talked about a 16MHz 386 32-bit "Screamer". Yep, that's right... a 16MHz screamer.
I'm just a little tired of chasing technology's tail. Sure, sometimes I get a little excited about what's new but only, ONLY if it's affordable. It's kinda like those Nascar vehicles that say Ford or some other manufacturer like if they win I'm gonna see that F-150 in a whole new light.
Right now I'm gonna search for a thread on overclocking the Thuban X6 locked.

Why not just "wait for a CPU" then buy that board (or better) for like $50 when they crash in price?
I'm in for that, but I'll only buy a CPU and mobo at the same time or thereabouts. Why buy a CPU and let it gather dust on a shelf while the mobo crashes in price and technological relevance?

My whole legacy issue is cause by a semi-heavy investment in DDR2 memory just when it started its free-fall drop from about $200 for 2x1 GB kits to about $25.
But now aside from 6x512MB modules I've got nothing but what's in my 2 own personal PCs.
