Just captured another feral cat that was killing birds in my yard.

"I like to capture cats and put them in cages because putting up a fence around my backyard would make too much sense."

What would you do if you saw a hawk eating one of your precious birds?

I never thought cats couldn't climb fences!

I've come to the conclusion that many guys don't like cats for one reason: they can't boss them around.

By the way, my experience in seeing chicks that have jumped/fallen out of nests is that they are probably doomed no matter what. Often times the mother ignores them, in which case they starve even if no predators are around. On the other hand, if many mother birds see a cat stalking around a nest area, they'll dive bomb them until they get the message and leave. Survival of the fittest, my friend. Even mother birds know.

This has exactly what to do with a cat coming into the OPs yard against his wishes and harming the birds that he enjoys watching, on his land?

And I grew up with both cats and dogs too, does that mean I shouldn't prefer one or the other? No. And just because they are natural hunters, that by no means excuses this behavior. If you think it does, you are as dumb as the cats you adore.

And that is hardly the reason that many guys don't like cats, especially because it is crap. Can't boss them around? They are a fracking animal. A lot of animals don't want to be "bossed around" whatever that means. We aren't dealing with a tiger here, these are domesticated house cats.

"I am CRT1530 and I do not understand that cats can easily jump over a normal sized fence".

Besides, why should I be out of money and put up an ugly fence around my entire house just because an irresponsible pet owner cannot do their duty and control their own animals?

Your suggestion is nonsense.

It was either a stray or someone's pet that had no tags and frequently wandered around my yard. Either way, it wasn't being supervised.

..get a few motion detecting water sprinklers. They will hose the cat or other invaders and will shut off via built in timer. I know many who use thses with great sucess.

Meh. I dont know where the OP lives but finding an animal and giving it away is a misdemeanor around here. I guess we can always hope one of these cats owners is as predatory as a cat and commits a misdemeanor on the OP.

Finding a stray cat and giving it away is not a misdemeanor. I followed all laws and didn't hurt the cat. I'm bringing it over to Philly animal control and let them take care of it.

And if one of those cat owners was as predatory as a cat, they, too will find themselves in a cage.

Of course they would end up in a cage. You know, cat is interchangeable with another name reserved for whiners and such.

Men have some sort of loyalty. Cats do not. Dogs do.

Men do not run up a tree and show fear. Cats do. Dogs do not.

Men do not use their nails in a fight. Cats do. Dogs do not.

Men dont screech like winy bitches when they're upset. Cats do. Dogs do not.

Men will protect. Cats do not. Dogs do.

Cats have hunting going for them to a certain extent. But there is a reason why history has pinned catliness as more of a woman thing.

To summarize:

I don't know what kind of Dogs you've owned but

lotality? are you KIDDING ME? a dog will hump ANYTHING that moves, and as far as owner loyalty if I had a big fat steak and offered it to your dog, your dog would forget everything about you.

cats run up trees, dogs hide, want proof set off a puny little firecracker, or start up a vacuum, even a bad a$$ dog will run in the bathroom and whimper.

cats use their claws, dogs bite. neither would be considered "manly" in a fight

dogs whimper, which is less annoying than a cat screeching, but both are still annoying.

cats are out for themselves, you might know a few rare men who protect, but most men I know ain't trying to protect anything, unless there's something in it for them (motives)

dogs need much more attention that is a WOMAN thiing, my moms dog jumps on my lap, I throw it off, it jumps right back up. I throw it off again it whimpers and wants to get a pet. Her older cats, I'd throw them off, they'd walk off like nothing happened.

I am 50/50 on cats or dogs. But I've never understood why dogs were manly animals and cats were for the chicks.

Heh heh. Way to turn it around on the guys who don't like cats ...There's only room for one boss in this house! GRUNT GRUNT!

I don't like them relative to dogs because they don't appear to show any emotion toward people.

You can't really "do" anything with a cat. They won't sit on your lap, won't come when called (unless you have food or a toy), won't bark at someone who's attacking you, won't stare out the window as you leave the house.

It's great that cats are independent and all and they're certainly cute when they're doing stuff on their own...but if I wanted to watch animals doing animal things (and not interacting with people), I'd go to the zoo.

All that is fine and dandy, but it doesn't change the fact that the cat didn't belong in my yard, and I'm removing the threat.

Who knew cats wouldn't respect property boundaries, lol. I'm sure you also mind that they keep your yard free of field mice, too. No mice, you say? Exactly my point.

No dinosaurs either...these are pretty tough feral cats

Yay! Logic is fun

good to know somebody's watching out for the wild birds. I hate how these cats roam unchecked.

You obviously missed the point.

Domesticated cats survive in the wild. Fidos, not so much.

this reminds me of my mothers cats, I was up there last week and they have 2 or 3 outdoor cats. One of them brought home a baby bunny, it left it in the yard for another cat, and it went trotting back across the field 125-150 yards and brought back another one. the first one was dead I think but the second one was still alive, but it didn't stay alive, it had a big chunk taken out on his back leg.

All I have to say is I despise birds. Noisy, disgusting creatures. They fly around and sh1t wherever they want to, 99% of the time it's on my truck early in the morning, so it sits there and gets baked into my paint. As far as I'm concerned, those cats were doing you a favor.

That's the irresponsible cat owner's mindset. It's your problem, not their's. It's their pest's God-given right to freely roam the neighborhood, killing things, defacing cars, sh!tting and pissing in gardens and flowerbeds, moaning outside windows at 2AM sounding uncannily like a distressed human infant, conspiring with Satan, spreading plague, and doing whatever else it is that they do in the wee small hours.

You cannot control a cat, unless by control, you mean "keep it inside." Our cat chooses to stay in our yard. Our last cat stayed within a 1 mile radius...he liked Jack In The Box dumpsters

Neither put up with collars/tags. We've tried and they eventually succeed in ripping them off. Most pet cats I've encountered do the same. In other words, good job giving away someone's cat.

Stray cats are a fact of life. No amount of ranting is going to change this. Learn to live with it.
