Just captured another feral cat that was killing birds in my yard.

Just a little while ago I caught another cat in my yard killing baby birds that jumped out of their nest. I like watching the birds grow up and I take pictures of them. Yet I CONSTANTLY find cats in my yard wreaking havoc on them.

I do not own a cat. I don't like cats, and I won't tolerate them coming into my yard destroying all the natural wildlife. Last week I caught one in my yard killing the chickadees, so I caught it and gave it away to someone who can properly care for it. Now I have another one that I'm about to bring over there. It's in my old ferret's cage right now spazzing out.

There are no tags on the cat and it's been roaming for a while. Off to Philly animal control it goes.

I expect the cat owners to keep them on their own property like they are legally required to do.

You said in your title that the cat is feral. Who can you blame? Mother nature?

If someone buys a cat as a pet but lets it roam the neighborhood without a tag, it's as good as feral.

While I don't blame mother nature, you can't blame me for siding with an animal I like over an animal I don't like.

I have no respect for pet owners who let their pets roam unrestricted in an urban area. There are too many cars and other dangers. If you can't keep your pet safe, then you shouldn't accept responsibility for it.

Then you're sure it has an owner? When you said feral, I was assuming you meant it was part of a wild, feral population of cats.

Typically, if the cat is running around with no tags, that's more than likely what the person already did and took the lame way out (I.e. they just threw the cat out and turned their backs).

The answer? A .22 rifle, or greater.

For real though...one of our neighbors just lets his cats roam all over the place and they constantly jump the fence and stalk the birds in our backyard. We have a natural area with birdfeeders and we also enjoy watching the birds, so naturally the cats piss us off. Grrrrrr.

I'm always amazed at people who don't like cats; particularly guys. I grew up with both cats and dogs, so I don't harbor a preference. Cats, by and large, mimic what men are in nature. They are hunters. You'd think guys would respect that. Dogs? Babies, for the most part. Constant attention required. I've come to the conclusion that many guys don't like cats for one reason: they can't boss them around.

By the way, my experience in seeing chicks that have jumped/fallen out of nests is that they are probably doomed no matter what. Often times the mother ignores them, in which case they starve even if no predators are around. On the other hand, if many mother birds see a cat stalking around a nest area, they'll dive bomb them until they get the message and leave. Survival of the fittest, my friend. Even mother birds know.

All that is fine and dandy, but it doesn't change the fact that the cat didn't belong in my yard, and I'm removing the threat.

Unfortunately Slikkster is right, those baby birds who have fallen out of the nest probably won't grow into anything you can take pictures of (unless you're into insect macro).

Cat's keep the birds healthy by killing the weak. Even if there are no cats, baby birds that aren't in the nest are going to die.

Meh. I dont know where the OP lives but finding an animal and giving it away is a misdemeanor around here. I guess we can always hope one of these cats owners is as predatory as a cat and commits a misdemeanor on the OP.

Who knew cats wouldn't respect property boundaries, lol. I'm sure you also mind that they keep your yard free of field mice, too. No mice, you say? Exactly my point.

He has the right to have his property the way he wants and not have others intrude. Keep your pets on your property, I'll keep those belonging to me on mine.

Finding a stray cat and giving it away is not a misdemeanor. I followed all laws and didn't hurt the cat. I'm bringing it over to Philly animal control and let them take care of it.

And if one of those cat owners was as predatory as a cat, they, too will find themselves in a cage.

For that kind of fishing, you usually want a lot of line out, and cruise at a slow speed, preferably with an electric motor.

Haha, I actually agree with you. I usually don't mind cats in my backyard unless they are getting their hair all over the outdoor furniture. If I had a bird feeder and they were disrupting it, I'd be pissed too.

Sometimes I go out and shoot them with my blowgun to try to scare them away. I use the plastic bullets, not darts.

Men have some sort of loyalty. Cats do not. Dogs do.

Men do not run up a tree and show fear. Cats do. Dogs do not.

Men do not use their nails in a fight. Cats do. Dogs do not.

Men dont screech like winy bitches when they're upset. Cats do. Dogs do not.

Men will protect. Cats do not. Dogs do.

Cats have hunting going for them to a certain extent. But there is a reason why history has pinned catliness as more of a woman thing.

To summarize:
