Just an electric insert, there used to be a real wood fireplace. I have thought of converting it back but those are so inefficient it's not even funny not to mention the damage it does to all the walls, mostly ceilings. Had to repaint the whole house when I moved in. Some spots were completely black.

Eventually I want to look at a wood stove though, either in the basement, or upstairs to replace the fireplace. I did hear those affect insurance though so I'd have to find out before I go ahead with it. I would probably get a pro to install it and not go the DIY route.

I visited SoCal in December and was not impressed. The temperature was nice each day but the smog was ridiculous.

Beverly Hills was pretty amazing looking though.

Overall the cost is not worth the benefit IMO. It has pluses and minuses just like every other area.

I think if I were to move somewhere for warmer weather, it would be TX.

Srsly though, I have a rough idea of what a temperature in C equates to, but I still have to look it up half the time.

-20C feels like -26C here. Honestly I'd say it feels even colder. Suppose to go to -32C overnight with a feels like of -43.

I need to figure out why my lower level is so drafty though, gets so cold in the house. Might have to pull the trim off the windows to double check the vapor barrier.
