No kidding man ... I took my bike out for a short ride today & it wasn't running very well at all so I kept it "low & slow" plus I had my fingers on the clutch for the whole ride just in case! (was wearing my helmet & leathers as well)
Good to hear you came through ok, but next time ride a bit before cranking it open!

Last night, I saw a motorcycle rider drop his bike at about 10-15 mph riding parallel to the cable car tracks(here in San Francisco). I told my self that this person had to be a beginner and had to learn the hard way. Wet rubber tires and cold wet steel tracks are not the best for traction...

From his perspective he stalled once (possibly just due to a cold engine, if it's anything like my bike), which would be easy to overlook. Remember, it stalled when he was shifting, which is the easiest time to stall a bike...you're applying zero throttle, and suddenly putting a load (and throttle) on the engine. No reason to think it would stall at high RPM, like at 85MPH.
