Have a severe storm warning for tonight. Possible large hail, and maybe a tornado.
Made sure my insurance was paid up.

May here in central NJ has been doing the sort of hot/cold swings I expect more from April. Today it was almost 90 but overnight lows for the next week are in the 40's and 50's.

The a/c seems to be doing a good job though but only if I use the central HVAC fan to circulate the air. The house is really poorly designed for proper heat/cold distribution. That's not a huge deal except for kwh rates are pretty high.

Watching radar on these things is kind of nerve wracking. I see the hook and the rotation indicators, then see the storm get upgraded from Severe to Tor.

But I see others show the same things and NOT get upgraded. No doubt their systems are a great deal more detailed and fine tuned than what I can see with a retail product.

Our killer storm turned into two hours of rain and lightening. No 60 mph winds, no big hail, no tornado.
It was a good day.

EDIT: Already getting into late June fun in early May (35.6C and 43.9C in non-freedom units)

Holy crap we don't even see that in July let alone May lol.

The grass is just starting to get green in some spots here. We've been mostly staying in temps above freezing now so things are slowly starting to grow. Bugs are slowly starting to come out too, actually saw a bumblebee the other day.

Oh wow tornado warning and softball sized hail reported about 30 miles from me. Storm looks like it'll pass about ten miles east of me but the tornado hook is on the SW side of the storm.

Blech first big heatdome of the year coming this weekend. God this is early to be having one, looks like we could be well on our way to a third straight record breaking summer. Those 77 and 78 degree lows mean the humidity is going to be through the roof too, probably 77 or 78 degree night time dewpoints. Ugh needing a cold front to blow in tomorrow just to hit our historical average temperature for May 16th of 86 degrees.

Been hovering in the 10-15C range here. A tad cool for shorts and tshirt but doable if doing physical work.

Went in the bush yesterday and there's no more snow on the ground. Pretty unusual for this early.

We've had dry months. We've had wet months. Overall, we're just about neutral for the year.

But much warmer than 'normal', whatever that is.

2024 seems to be the year of moody morose weather. The NYC area is being taught what it's like to live in Seattle.

Water was invigoratingly warm around 10 AM in the morning. Maybe a month until it becomes scalding hot? Though I hope not.

Yikes! https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory...es-risk-tornadoes-houston-area-gets-110325037

Is this normal or does this have anything to do with climate change?
The Gulf Coast gets strong storms so that's not surprising, however I'm going to go out on a limb and attribute the severity to climate change. To really tell it would take an attribution study.

For us personally, we were fine. The worst missed us by about 10-20 miles. Max wind gust was around 25mph and we got 1.33 inches in about an hour or so.

Yesterday the weather gone crazy around Central Texas, before moving east and hit Houston.

I was working when the it started to rain. I thought weatherlady said there will be a storm in the afternoon, so I didn't paid much attention. Within 15 minutes, rain got really heavy that i thought it was starting to hail. Also thunders and lightnings.. lots of them and I have never counte dso many in the last 20 years I live here. Lastly the sky turned so dark the street lights came on and I thought it was like during the eclipse because it was so dark!

Bam, lost power and all of the stuffs i was working on (my UPS died a week ago...)

The whole thing lasted about 30+ minutes then the rain gradually eased off. No more thunders and lightnings. The wife was so scared she thought there would be tornado too.
