74 and raining all day thanks to Alberto. Very out of place to have a cool day in late June here. Back up into the mid to high 90s by Sunday though.

Was funny the local news was hyping things up like we were going to get 4-10" of rain from Alberto in San Antonio. Looks like we may get 0.50 inch today and 0.25 inch tomorrow. Still nice to have a day in the 70s in June though and have light all day rain kind of like February days when in lived in LA. As opposed to the violent storms that piss a couple inches of rain over an hour or so like we usually get when we have rain.

Another hot one today. 24 feels like 28 as of now but it was hotter earlier, I just didn't check at that time. We had another epic storm and it cooled things down a little. Lots of misc damage around town. Saw traffic lights hanging by the wire, trees toppled over in people's yards etc. Nothing crazy but definitely some damage. Lots of houses in certain subdivisions lost lot of shingles too, only like 10 year old houses too... went on top of my sister's house to fix some shingles and it looks like they used OSB sheathing. I bet all the houses in that area are the same. no underlayment either. The nails were going in easy and all the existing shingles were bouncing each time I swung the hammer. That was sketchy too, that roof slope was a little more than I'm comfortable with.

My power was out for like 4-5 hours, just came back up now. I think I need to prioritize my server room battery upgrade as well as building my generator box and transfer switch wiring because it's the 2nd major outage this month now. It seems we are getting lot of storms this year because of the heat.

Pretty hot in the house now, just turned on the AC.

Living Room:24.1°C (=)
Hallway:25.3°C (=)
Server Room:25.6°C (+)
HVAC Return:23.6°C (=)
HVAC Supply:22.9°C (+)
Outside:25.5°C (-)
Delta Temp:-0.7°C

It was hot (around 85f) and sunny today in New Haven but nowhere near the absurd "sky is falling" weather stories made it sound like it would be.

"EXTREME HEAT DOME" my @$$.

My favourite is when it's normal summer temperatures like 22-25 and they highlight the entire map in red. I mean yeah once it starts to push 25 it's hot especially if you don't have AC, but I wouldn't really call it abnormal either.

Driving home from "the big city" tonight, it was 65 in town, the closer we got to home, the more the temp dropped...then we hit the fog of the marine layer, and it dropped to under 50F. Visibility dropped to about 1/2 - 3/4 miles max.

I can't remember the last time there was fog here. I mean, the weather people have mentioned it in passing but since it seems to be more of a morning thing, I guess I've missed out.

But I do love fog - not a steady diet but from time to time. It makes everything seem mysterious, enchanted, other worldly. Walking around it, taking deep breaths of mist. Enthralling.

Of course I'm far less sanguine about driving in it.

had a big thunderstorm roar thru last night around midnight here. It woke me up and startled me with its intensity.

I quite enjoy hiking through it, especially when it's a bit higher in elevation and I'm pretty much hiking through clouds.

One of the best things about two days of rain is I don't have to hear the damn cicadas. God I hate hearing those things since they never let me forget it's the dead of summer and they love being loud especially on 100 degree days.

I actually like the sounds of cicadas here. It wouldn't be summer without them.

One of many things I was glad to leave behind in the midwest, fuckin' cicadas.

The heat wave is almost over, but I liked it. 90F right now.

Looks like a good week ahead for the grass...

Got up this morning...warm (almost 60F) and sunny at the house. Drove down to get a haircut...shop is about a block from the beach...
