FWIW tune on Ecoboost 'Stangs can actually go just as fast, if not faster than the 5.0..... Tune only has bee in the mid-high 12s. These are potent little engines.

Its a little different when you get into mods as its all relative. The 4cyl mustang in the video had drag radials as well as a tune. You put drag radials on a stock 5.0 and your running mid 12's and that's without a tune. They are still pretty quick for the money though.

When I bought my 2013 BMW 335i I had not originally intended to buy the 335. I was going to get a 328 (or whatever the model/engine was below it). But to my shock and horror the model with the drivetrain below what was in the 335 was a turbo I-4 that sounded like a cheap lawnmower. I literally felt like I was driving the most cheap BMW I had ever driven before. I spent much more money that originally planned because of this tin-can sounding I-4 turbo.

In the past couple of years I have had two different BMW dealerships calling me and asking me to sell them my car. F that! BTW, I had to put in a build order (and wait 2 months for delivery) to get one in the color/option I wanted because at the time 335i's were hard to find. Love the turbo I-6. And while I will say the I-4 turbo was as snappy as the wife's 2004 325i, the tin-can sound coming out of the new ones just made me embarrassed.

This is why I bought the last year of the GT500. 355ci V8 5.8 Trinity motor. 662HP factory rated, has a Eaton 2300 super charger on it, thanks to CAI baffles, no whine.
Now they have dropped down to a 5.2 Voodoo motor I believe for the GT350, I believe it's to get in compliance with the CAFE regulations for fuel economy by 2020 or something.

I'm with V8 guys, but mine isn't a daily driver so I don't worry about fuel economy.

The 5.2 is a different beast altogether, flat plane crank, high revving V8...not sure it has anything to do with fuel economy.

Also, you don't like the supercharger whine? First thing I am going to do when I get my hands on a 2013-14 GT500 is rip those baffles out. I love the whine.

Lol, nah I like quiet. I get a lot of business at red lights. I can hear there's, but they can't hear mine. Then they have to read Shelby on the rear as I go on by. Mines the 2014 sterling gray with black matte stripes.

Oh and not for fuel economy per say, but the industry as a whole gearing toward smaller motors for those CAFE law regulations.

Never said a stock ecoboost 'stang can hold with a 5.0. I said a tuned one. I'm just saying don't hold them down, they are potent machines. It's a very similar situation to old I4 turbo in the fox bodys. They can easily out perform their counter parts with mods. That is all.

That being said I'd still buy the 5.0 myself.

PS I work at a Ford dealership, I am a Journeymen Service Advisor, and have been doing this for over 10 years. I'm not just a kid going BOOST IS COOL. I know what I'm talking about =).

A turbo 4 just doesn't compare with a serious V8 like the modern 5.0. Maybe if the 4 banger car dropped a 1k lbs... I'll just stick with my coyote

Cylinders are irrelevant nowadays. Anything can make power.

Sure you cant make up displacement. But to say a turbo 4 can't be serious to a V8 is just assine.

Hell I had a 2010 Cobalt SS/TC with an intake, downpipe, intercooler, and tune I was putting out 370 wtq, and 300whp. And that was 6 years ago.

My 2016 Focus ST does 250/270 stock and tune only puts them at 240whp/320+wtq.

It does not matter what POS you had bought new couple of years ago. Dealers always send you that letter. Only really dumb people believe in that letter.

Yeah and your Cobalt weighed 2900 lbs, so almost 1k lbs less then a S550... I'm sure it was a blast. There's a big difference between peak power from a turbo small displacement engine, and what a large displacement engine gives you. I've owned a Forester XT, and a Saab 9-2X, it really is a completely different feel, kind of like a rubber band effect. I do like what they are doing with the twin turbo setups nowadays though

Also what happens when I put some money into my V8? 200+ HP is only a SC away. I can already spin my 295 rears going from 2nd to 3rd so maybe staying NA isnt a terrible idea.

All I'm really trying to say is that it's all relative. A v8 is a better platform to make power from then an i4

You need stickier rubber.

The power question is more about displacement than cylinders. It just so happens that you typically have higher displacement when you add cylinders.

I'd suggest looking at dyno charts for modern DI small displacement engines with turbos. Most if them make power and torque at a lower rpm than most V8s.. Peak power is usually at around 2500RPM and falls off around 5500 due to the small turbos. Great at peak early power but fall off on air supply at higher RPM.

The 3.5l ecoboost in the Taurus SHO makes all 350lbs of its torque from 1500rpm on. It's a twin turbo setup though, so it is slightly different.
