I was nervous coz i've only driven a car with manual a few times. Chocked the car on several occasions at 1st and 2nd gear but at least I didn't have the engine die once... feel sorry for my baby. Pretty hard to get a good feel with the gas and clutch at 1st and 2nd. My palm sweats.

lol, heck of a car to buy when new on a manual

one thing that really helps is to find an empty parking lot. And then without having to worry about anything. Slowly let the clutch out until you can feel it engaging and pulling the car along. Do this real slow at first to get the hang of it and then later youl be golden

well no accidents or ticket, and my wife didn't leave me. She actually left WITH the car. she drove it to work after I'm done playing.

And you'll loose in that porker (assuming it's reliable enough to do a decent run)

I slowly let the clutch out to see how far can the clutch out without stalling at the red light and the car stalled. Pretty embarrassing but luckily I fired it up again it was still red light. Shoudn't have done it at the red light tho.

thanks, as if i weren't nervous enough. Well even my wife who's been driving a crappy manual for years she stilled stalled the car a few times. That car and the engine sound just make you nervous.

The Holy Grail for New Stick Shift Drivers

Practice the no gas method mentioned in the article. Also check out the forums on that website. EXCELLENT information and resources there. You have to be patient though.

WRX isn't bad to learn on. I've never driven an STi though.

EDIT: Honestly, both Toyota manuals I've driven had very forgiving clutches. Maybe you should go testdrive a Tacoma or something to get used to it more

STi was my first manual too. I had about 2 hours practice in an integra beforehand, and practiced about 2 more hours in the STi on the dealer lot. Slopes made me nervous for the first couple of months.

The best car to lean how do drive a manual is a cavalier. Its the easiest manual I've ever driven.

When your wife/gf can drive stick better than you, your man card must be revoked.
