Not really, finished it over a month ago.. am done with my exams and TA work.. so have some spare time to write a review of this game.

Terrific game IMO.

To clarify, I have not played any games that this one has ripped off(GoW, Zelda, DMC, Portal).

Intro: You play as War, youngest of the four horsemen, gets caught up in an apocalypse(Final battle between angels and demons) which was started prematurely. Soon after; War loses most of power, and is on a quest to solve the mystery of who started this battle.

Gameplay: This game is an action adventure with a 3rd person perspective. Being a console port, it is best played using Xbox 360 gamepad, my Logitech gamepad is not supported out of the box.. and I had to play with Mouse+KB. Surprisingly, the experience was not all the bad... and got used to it pretty quickly. The combo moves gets boring very fast.. there are a variety of combos to choose from, but only a couple of them have maximum damage. This game has a lot of button mashing.. so make sure you have a good quality mouse.

The enemies are pretty diverse and fighting them is entertaining.. the finishing moves have a lot of gore(which is a good thing IMO) and are creative.. although I used it excessively on minions, I never found the finishing moves boring. The boss fights are relatively easy and the set pieces are beautiful.. I never got stuck.. **cough** ME 1 & 2 **cough** .. and AI can some times be dumb, but overall they react pretty quickly and are generally very agile and aggressive. Oh.. and the boss fights can get boring as it feels like you are playing on rails.. they have scripted moves.. where you have some window to attack them.. it is pretty easy to read their moves. Physics(Havoc) for this game are worth mentioning.. and are very well done and unlike PhysX this does not eat up huge resources.

Story: There is nothing much to report in terms of story, but the voice acting was done pretty well.. this game feels like a high production project. That said, the story is pretty coherent and the development is gradual, and it continues through out the game. New skills make it interesting and never did I feel that this game was repetitive.
The best moment of this game was when I acquired the portal gun, Ulthane(The Irish(?) accent and his character was a great comic relief) and when rejoined with ruin.
The watched was extremely annoying.. in all fairness he was meant to be a PITA to War.. in that sense its OK I guess.

Graphics: This has to be the weakest part of the game.. absolutely no graphic and IQ settings.. lots of jaggies and graphics, although pretty colorful, look very dated. 3 years ago.. this game could have been better appreciated graphics wise.

Atmosphere and Map Design: These aspects are well done and it looks like a good time has been spent designing levels. The atmosphere is spectacular.. and huge draw distance makes this game look and feels "epic." The environments are varied.. from deserts to abandoned urban settings.. its really spectacular. The total area is pretty big as well.. and cut scenes are aptly place without OD'ing on them. The save system is pretty generic.. the usual, consolified, check point based system.

Pros:

1. Likable characters
2. Great Map/Level design
3. Loads of Gore
4. Entertaining finishing moves
5. Easy controls
6. Long Campaign(~25 hours with all collectibles and achievements in Normal mode)

Cons:

1. Although coherent.. the story is OK and not that compelling.
2. AI can be dumb some times
3. Graphics are dated and No IQ settings
4. Boss battles are easy

Final Verdict: 8.5/10(Great game)

A must have for action/adventure fans.

Current game: Magicka.

Is this counted as a technical or social forum?

I only need to know because I cant describe how much I dislike that game without swearing.

I found the game to be meh. Didn't intensely dislike, didn't really care for it.

Playing through God of War and Devil May Cry once was enough for me, much less the countless sequels and clones that followed.

I started tuning into gamer thoughts/reviews of Darksiders after I completed DMC4. I really enjoyed DMC4 and nuturally was looking for a new fix after beating it. I will say that I really dislike the challenges and other aspects of DMC4 that absolutely shred any ability to suspend disbelief while playing it. The end of chapters and save systems and bank/tools system was atrocious.

Darksiders I liked a lot more than DMC4. Story was ok, but it was the gameplay I really liked. I'm a HUGEEEEEEEEEE Zelda fan, so the obvious likeness with the dungeons and character progression were something that appealed to me.

Great review Busydude, nice and to the point and yes, this game is a must have for action/adventure gamers.

this.

I really couldn't get past 2 or more hours of Darksiders. It's just more of the same--and very much the same--in a different skin. More DMC than GoW...which is a bad thing, if you ask me.

I enjoyed it; one of the boss fights was a pia (not the last two they were easy). The mirror thing was kind of wacky; but parts of the game became old. Not sure I would play it a second time. Oh well I think this was my first 'zelda' game at least I can't think of any similar games I've played (I'm strictly a pc player though one day i might byte the bullet and get a xbox or (more likely) ps3).

The fight with Uriel was the hardest IMO. Second boss fight with Straga and final boss fight were really easy.

I bought Darksiders on sale about a month or so ago, and it's awesome. Sure, it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. But I'll be damned if it isn't fun. Xbox360 gamepad is absolutely necessary for the full experience. Fantastic hack'n'slash Zelda/Gears of War combination.

Played it when it first came out (on the PS3) and enjoyed it a lot. I got it for free recently for the PC and am planning to play it again. I loved the Zeldaness of it.

I thought it was pretty fun. Art direction was great, though the engine is dated, and the gameplay was fun. Not very original, but good execution.

If you like console Hack n Slash type games (3rd person) I'd recommend you try it... and pick up a X360 gamepad too. With all the cross platform stuff these days I'm glad I got one. Deadspace is a helluva lot more pleasant with one.

I just got around to this on my steam queue. I thought it was really boring\repetitive after playing for 30 minutes. It reminded me of Gods of War on the PSP but with no combo moves.

Loved it when I played it. Sure it's nothing new but it was executed very well. Also since I've never played a GoW game or DMC for more than a few min it was a fun time.

I haven't played GoW so cannot comment on that.. but I never found the game to be boring at all. I can only suggest you to continue playing for maybe an hour more.. it certainly gets interesting as we move on.

Personally I had huge problems with the camera angles in Darksiders. I always felt FAR to close to the main character. I know they were trying to make him appear larger than life, but it only meant that I couldn't see monsters attacking me. And the Dodging thing was very wonky indeed.

Honestly GoW was far superior and the template upon which this game was cloned (and not very well imho). Even Dante's Inferno was superior.

I feel Darksiders is more like a Zelda clone. I don't think there's enough combos in the game to say they were going after a GoW clone. Which is what I hope they do in Darksiders 2 - add in more combos.

I haven't actually played Zelda since Minish Cap. So I didn't see this as anything like that. But then again, maybe it is more like the more recent installments?

You didn't play long enough. The first hour or so (I'm estimating) is pretty bland, and nothing more than a rip off of God of War. You'll eventually get to the first dungeon, and if you still don't like the game after completing that, then it's safe to give up.

Some of the game mechanics are directly lifted out of the 3D zeldas.
