Just finished my desk build

I just finished my build "Water & Wood". You can see all the details in my worklog.
I'm pretty happy with the results, a very powerful yet peacefully quite gaming rig.

Idea for you if you haven't started already: frame out a sliding furnace filter cover for your fan assembly.

I'd just like to see the look on a clerk's face when you ask for a ~16"x20" filter and you tell them it's for your computer, heh.

You are correct, it says "water" on the top, and "wood" or "tree" on the bottom.

Nice idea, but not asthetically pleasing. Plus, the current filters being exposed means their easy to clean without removal

I'm already at my personal limit for bling (window + LEDs)....but thanks for the suggestion :thumbsup:

i'd have gone maple. pine dents too easy.

edit: i'm guessing you repurposed an older desk... as the rest of the desk has knothole pine, and the door on your case part is piece-scrap whitewood.

i'm liking the whole japanese theme with the shoji and peaceful desktops and whatnot, but it just seems like so much effort to spend with crap materials. the door face should either be the same wood as the drawer faces/desktop, or starkly contrasting with them.

This was the best I could do with my local supply....I wasn't too happy either. But someday I'll move back into the real world where I can get better stuff and I'll rebuild

it's just...frustrating to me (even by proxy) that for the effort he put into it, it could have been that much better.

wrt the project itself, when the materials choice you have limits you to something bearing only a passing resemblance to the material you're shooting for, go the other way. shoot for heavy contrast, rather than trying to match.

and i honestly don't think your wood choices would be that limited in northern japan. japan has a very long history of fine carpentry, so there should be means of procuring fine woods. i realize wood is comparatively expensive over there, but for the size of the project i can't imagine it'd be that much.

i just saw something funny. dimensional bamboo. cut, sand, whatever like normal wood.

I have no doubt if I spoke the language, Iwould be able to track down nice woods. But I only went to the local hardware stores (three to choose from, all had the same supplier). I recreated the door three times at a cost of more than $20 each. If it had been nice wood, the price tag could have been much higher. It was my first time working with wood. It won't be the last time though, and I'll only improve with more experience and time
