Just finished reading 'Dune'...

Anyone reccomend getting the second/third/fourth book in the series?

Muadib is probably the expert here but i highly recommend all the books, although the last book i thought was a bit of a let down.

The 3rd, 4th and 5th books are really good.

Herbert has a rather unique style with the way he unfolds the whole story. If you read the rest of the books in order, you feel like you have a little bit of an advantage because you are already exposed to the major groups in the book. I have read all the books in the series even those co-written by his son and I enjoyed them all so I would definitely recommend them.

Second book was kinda bleh. Third book was pretty good, but really heavy. The first one easily the best. Got the fourth on my bookshelf, Ill get around to it eventually. How does it comepare to the first three?

defintely get them, the first time i read through the series I didn't like it as much as dune, but i have read dune know about 15 times and i have read the rest of the books 3 or 4 times, i highly reccomend it, one of the greatest stories ever told.

DUNE is by far the best...

after that read the rest and then read the Prequel by his son. I just listened to the books on tapes of the prequels while I was taking a long trip and they were pretty good as well (unabridged books on tape on the road are super to make those miles melt away!)

And for Hot chics rent the Children of Dune. major hotties

Recommend all books by Frank Herbert. Skip the books by his son, its as if he gave his father's books a cursory read before doing his own writing.

Dune (#1), Dune Messiah (#2) and Children of Dune (#3) are the only books I'd bother reading. Everything else is real screwy.

If the fact that Herbert died before he could write the last book doesn't bother you, by all means read the whole series. It's very good, but I couldn't help feeling a bit let down after it was "over".

Dune is my all time favorite series. Read them all! I'll admit, the prquels suck compared to the real ones but are real fun for fans of the series!!

I did very much like the concept of the dictator with the thousands of years lifespan. It would allow him to truly work for the benefit of the species rather than just his next re-election.

 

Read at least the trilogy.

I tried getting into SciFi last year, and Dune was the first book I tried to read. Unfortunately, I never really could get into it because I found Scifi was just not for me. I am not knocking the series at all -- it just seemed hard to read and I lost interest real quick because of that.

A friend of mine gave me Ender's Game to try, but I never even opened the cover.

It looks like it may be time to get Dune and EG off the shelf and give it another try...

enders game was great

the three after that got exponentially weirder and weirder
still interesting, and good reads; but freaking weird

anyway, ive heard alot about dune, and rented the movie one day (the one that came out a couple years ago)
that movie blew, havent picked up the book yet

someone tell me the book is at least 300 to 1000 times better than that awful movie

I did like the Sci-Fi movie of Children of Dune though.
