Just got a 7800 GTX

See my sig for specs, except replace the x800xl with the 7800GTX, I figured I would be seeing INSANE difference in this card, especially for how much it cost, but I actually LOST FPS from the xl to the GTX in the CS: source stress test. 3dmark went up by about 3000 points, which is more around what I expected, but the loss of FPS in the source stress test is just unacceptable. same settings I had the ATI at and it is about 20 FPS lower, which I am seeing things like 100 FPS from most of the reviews with 4x AA on.

There is probably one or 2 settings in the display properties that is set too high that is causing the problem.

that card with his spec should run blazeing fast with all setting maxed and should be able to do way over what he is getting

sounds to me like a bum card id play with the settings some if not id RMA it

BTW do u have SLI8x or SLI16x AA on ? cause i have mine on and when i did a CS:S bench i get crappy FPS :disgust: but the wired thing is ingame im fine so it mite be a bug with that setting when u run a BM

Hmm I'd say your card isn't getting enough power, but if your 3dmark score went up 3000 then that wouldn't explain it. That card should be able to run the cs "stress test" in its sleep no problem.

Properly uninstall and remove all traces of ati drivers? Driver conflict could be a problem too.

Well, I think I figured out the problem. I took off Vsync and it shot up to 120FPS istantly. But I wouldn't think that that would cause NEARLY that much loss of performance, but I suppose it does. So doesn't look like a bum card. Just me setting something wrong. Thanks for all the replys guys.

If your refresh rate on your monitor is set to 60Hz, then that would be exactly where your score should have been with Vsync on.

Did you run driver cleaner before you installed the nvidia card? If not then that's your problem.

Yeah, keep vsync off unless you get tons of tearing. also, make sure you run driver cleaner (in safe mode) before installing any new drivers (after installing the old ones of course).

and check your settings in the display properties...that could be messed with too.

I get 191.2 FPS at 12x9 so that is not right at all.

No, that is just about right, because I run at 1680 x 1050, hence the monitor in my sig being a 2005FPW. So 120FPS is about right for that, consider the fairly large difference in out screen resolutions.

I am very pleased with it now that I have turned off Vsync, and I don't see any tearing, so all is well, thanks again for all the replies.

For a second I didn't look to see if you had an lcd and thought, "why in the world is he using a crt at 60hz?"

But NICE!!! 1680x1050 with 120 fps....reminded me back 5 years ago when Kutargi wanted ,"1600x1200 at a consistent 120fps" for the next generation

Vsync didn't give you a performance hit. It was just that Vsync was doing its job: to display each frame at each Hz, therefore your framerate would be lower or equal to 60fps no matter what you do.
