just got a careless driving ticket...

Yes, we all know nobody on ATOT speeds, and I am evil. Putting that aside, facts:

-I took a corner at 35mph when the speed limit was 25mph.
-Cop tailgates me and stops me.
-Cop says he's going to do me a favor and give me a careless driving ticket instead of a speeding ticket.
-Asked cop how many points (if any) are on a careless driving ticket, he said he did not know.
-I am in NJ.

Anyone know if there are any points associated with this? This sucks ass, I'm on the lookout for a WRX soon, i'm so going to get raped on insurance...

I had a speeding ticket that I contested because of the circumstances (long story) which was my first speeding ticket or any moving violation in 15 years of driving. I spoke to the DA, got it lowered to a careless driving ticket and paid $140 in fines and fees. I didn't get any points but my insurance skyrocketed. It went from $1800 to $3200 which was total BS. Now I'm paying $1600 at Metlife.

The speed signs that you see just before a corner are RECOMMENDED speeds, not the speed limit.

At least here in Oregon.

You'd think with a clean record for 15 years with no moving violations, no accidents, 2 kids, I'd get a break but no. Prudential (Highpoint now) really sucked. Even with the violation, Metlife is cheaper for me than before the violation with Highpoint.

On my way to work, there's an offramp with a yellow sign that says 35mph. It's an exit only lane, where the speed limit is 55MPH.

You can easily take the offramp corner at 60MPH, nobody ever slows down.. lol

It'd suck if you had to.

Just contest it. I have yet to hear of a ticket that didn't get reduced when you contest. Plus, if you're not an NJ resident, you have a lot less to fear b/c NJ is REALLY bad about commuting points to other states.

I got stopped for ludacris speed in a 45mph straight-away at 2am last summer.... the cop actually put his glock in my face at a convienience store and told me to get back in the car and that it was a traffic stop

No points ever came over.... $300 including fines after I got it knocked down.

I have heard that there are a few states that treat the yellow speed signs as the actual speed limit. Fortunatley PA isn't one of them

I did not get a ticket though because I saw the cop coming fast behind me, so I just pulled over then, shut the car off and waited for him.
