so far I'm rather liking this device, the screen is lovely & setup was quite smooth. After using an ipad holding a 7 inch device does feel a big odd though.
What made you choose the Fire HD over the nexus 7?
Easy choice, I won this Kindle LOL, I just gifted my son with it, he's thrilled but already has asked me to root to get him the Google play store

How's the build quality on this thing? Any widespread problems being reported? I'm about done with Asus.
TF101 had horrible backlight bleed and dead pixels galore, TF201 had gps and wifi issues, and the same screen issues as the TF101 from what I read, and the Nexus 7 has the screen lift.

Yeah its like they went to the other extreme with the power button. The first one was too easy to hit.The screen quality is really nice on this thing. As far as the physical properties of the device the only thing I don't like is that the power & volume rockers are kind of hard to see with my old eyes as they are black & kind of blend in with the rest of the body of the device. Sound quality is actually really good, surprisingly so.

If I was keeping this device for my own use I think I'd be marking the buttons in some way to make them easier to see. It is a small thing but becomes really annoying if you are using the device while in bed or in other settings with dim light.
Overall though I am very impressed with the quality of this device, the screen & sound quality alone are outstanding particularly when you consider that it only costs $199.

Many people who actually paid that 199 arent happy with it because of the adware all over the thing. If I could root and install whatever I wanted to avoid the ads, I'd be happy with one.
