This mouse rocks. Really fits well in the hand, and the design is top-notch.

One thing that annoys me though is the drivers: no way to configure the buttons on the mouse to act differently depending on the application. Anyway to add some stable 3rd party app that would allow that?

I know it's possible because my Kensington trackball has this option.

Also, the drivers are not that well thought out. I guess all Logitech mouse owners must have tried the "Web Wheel". It's not bad, but would be much better if it could be activated from the thumb button instead of solely from the wheel. But what really annoys me is that if you scroll a little fast with the wheel, the scrolling actually continues after you stop as if it skids. I uninstalled the drivers because of that. I'm now stuck using the default settings of the mouse (thumb button = back in browser, useless in other apps).

Anyone knows of a fix for that too?

thanks guys!

EDIT: Just re-read my post, and I think it belongs to software forum...sorry guys. If anyone still has ideas/comments/fixes, please post!

Well I'm no great gamer, but I'd guess it's a gamer's dream, dual optical sensors, fast optical tracking, 4 buttons (2 standard, wheel, and thumb), and it's the most ergonomic mouse I've seen. It's also a little "heavy", I like it much better than Microsoft's light and flimsy mice.

My only small gripes: the right-click button doesn't extend to the edge of the mouse and my finger tends to rest too much to the right to click it, and the thumb button could be a little higher. I guess it's really a matter of the shape of your hand, but it's no big deal.

I have a regular Logitech Optical mouse and I found that if I check the "Use MS Office Compatible Scroll Only" option, the "skidding" after scrolling goes away.

i heard opticals (dual or not) are not as good as regualr ball mice. dont get me wrong, they probably work fine. but many have said to me that ball=better gaming.

can anyone confirm this? please be extra critical because even .00001 lagtime can make a difference to an anal gamer.

igowerf, I'll try that, thanks a lot!!!!

tkim, I'm no expert, but I think that even if a fast optical mouse isn't as fast as a ball one (which I don't know), it will be more precise because of the dirt that accumlates in the ball mouse (unless you use only a dedicated "special mouse" for gaming and you rid your desk of all dust and bacteria before playing!)

I`m a hardcore gamer and only use optical mouse now for gaming,I use to hate the ball type mouse especially if you got a bit of dust in there and it got stuck in gaming for a second,so you`ve no ball cleaning to worry about.

My mouse is the older Logitech optical mouseman wheel(blue one) but does a very good job in gaming, the newer models out are even better, some people say ball type mouse are the only way to go for gaming, but give me a good optical mouse anyday .

I have the Logitech ifeel mouseman, and I hate it! This is the 2nd one after the first's scroll wheel refused to function....

Plus for some reason this mouse will make my pointer shake and then eventually a lil jump (just sitting on my desk/ both mice)...

And in the middle of using my mouse the pointer will just shoot across the screen(both mice), I will never buy another logitech mouse again.

on the + note, they have good customer service, they replaced the mouse, no problem!

I just purchased the Microsoft wireless IntelliMouse Explorer, I hope I have better performance. Anyone have or ued one of these?! Dion

Dion Unroe- What kind of surface are you using those mice on? It sounds like a good case of a reflective surface. Try using something nonreflective like a piece of paper and I'll bet your problems will decrease. You also have ot mess with sensitivity and acceleration tuning

Yep! Trying different sufaces and mouse pads helps a lot with getting the best out of your optical mouse,I`ve tried few mouse pads,my desktop and even a piece of white paper. Tweaking is the key, most people pay good money for a decent optical mouse but how many of them spend time in getting the best performance out of it? I know I did .

I once used a magazine as a mouse pad and the repeating patterns and colors along with the shiny surface made my mouse go crazy. I found a spot on the magazine cover that would ALWAYS cause my mouse to jump across the screen.
As for the pointer shaking for no apparent reason, I've had that happen to me too. I think it just happens when you rest the mouse on a spot that confuses it. It goes away for me after I move the mouse or wipe off the surface.

heh u either had a funky mouse, or used it on a shiny or something surface. i have an ifeel too, hell i have 3 logitech opticals and i've never had ur problems i've owned the ms mice too, didn't like it much, not that it didn't work, just a personal pref.

but yea, if u put it on a shiny or odd surface, sometimes the mouse point will wiggle even when your not moving. i guess dual optical would solve that.

FPS games are what you need to test the dual optical on, as with the regular optical, you cannot do the 180 degrees turn-around as with the regular ball mouse, without some getting used to it first. The dual optical is supposed to fix that as each optics is for seperate x, and y axis.

When i first got my Logitech MouseWheel It was hard to get use to for FPS games, but also there was an option where your your mouse accelerates as you move it. You have to turn that off if your gaming because it screws it up majorly. Other than that, after you turn it off, it works great. I have no problems playing Q3, DoD, CS, any FPS game.... i luv it.

Optical mice and gaming are in a very good shape now.

I bought, and returned, the first 2 generations of optical mice -- they simply couldn't handle the "flick" with the mouse when it came to FPS games. When I read about the Logitech dual optical, I figured I'd give it a shot and I now use it on a daily basis comparered to the previous Logitech mouse with wheel.

Also, the latest MS intellimouse (v3.0), is great for gaming too. I do still have my non optical mice around, but I'm quite positive they'll go the way of the dodo the next time I donate some computer hardware.

The only thing I don't like about the optical mice are the stupid driver software they ask to install. I never install them and am quite pleased without the additional features that are turned off.
