So my wife broke down and we got a new 47" LCD to replace our old 19" tube... the difference is awesome and we're only doing OTA HD right now. TV shows look so crisp and clear compared to regular OTA.

Few questions:

1. I've read both in the manual and online that I should change the screen temp to 6500k instead of native. However, I seem to like how the native colors look (little brighter) but am wondering if I'm missing something here.

2. When the screen is totally black there seems to be some backlight on the screen (corners are grayish), but when there is a show on it looks fine. Is that normal?

3. I've also read to turn off Idea, but I'm not sure why or what it does. Is it necessary?

4. Here's my current equipment: Olevia TV, PS2, Tivo Series 2, HTPC. Right now I'm connecting the ps2 and tivo through composite and the HTPC hooked into through VGA. I don't have any sort of sound system but plan on maybe getting an Onkyo HTIB. Would I plug all of my equipment into the HTIB and then there would be one HDMI cable going from the HTIB to the Olevia? Do they have Onkyo systems that play HDDVD?

5. DVD picture: Playing a DVD through my PS2 via composite looks decent, but not amazing. Whenever I get a HD player or even a DVD player that has HDMI, will the picture quality improve a lot?

That's all I can think of right now.

Thanks.

Wow, from a 19" tube to a 47" LCD, what a jump! Congrats!

I have a 37" Olevia LCD. I've always preferred the native setting myself. Use whatever setting looks best to your eyes. To me that is native. As far as number 5, the answer is YES! An HD player, or even a regular upconverting DVD player over HDMI is going to look dramatically better than the PS2 over composite. Remember that HD-DVD players upconvert standard DVD's as well.

I picked one up also from CC last week. I left mine on the Native setting as well. The 6500k is definitely not as bright.
I also have some back light issues on the corners. (More so on the top of the screen then bottom).

Using a HD dvd player via HDMI vs standard DVD/Upscaled is like night and day. You will notice a significant difference especially if you run it in 1080p.

Did you intend to write component video? Composite is nearly the worst connection you can have.

I don't think so.. I'm a video noob, but the cables have the red, yellow and white. Yellow is for the video. My PS2 and tivo are both going that way.

Change them to component/HDMI if possible for a much better picture.

Got this tv also, awesome.
I don't seem to have the backlight issue though.
Yes use component/HDMI if possible-no is essential.
