Yep, revenue. If you fight the ticket, you end up paying lawyer fees, missed wages at work, etc. Catch 22, you may get the moral high ground and not have to pay the ticket, but you still get stuck paying for other things equal to the cost of the ticket.

thats a sorry ass excuse for not fighting the ticket...

The problem with that theory is do you honestly think the judge will buy that line?

Considering it's your car many don't and they can fine the person for contempt or jail them over it and it's happened enough times.

If after the op's mom sends in her drivers liscense to prove it was not her and she gets a notice back to inform them who the person was or appear in court it's generally better to inform them through the notice since many times you get charged extra for bringing it to court.

Although that's changing it looks like in Chicago:

Thats chicago not california........
In california all she has to do is fill out the paperwork and state she was not the driver.

If you don't want a ticket you shouldn't run a red light. From the OP's statements I don't see how he got a ticket. He was the intersection prior to the light turning red and couldn't get all the way through before it turned red. So getting a ticket for that sounds like bullshit.

I got a red light camera ticket once. It was my fault as I'd thought I was able to make the light, I didn't. I paid the ticket. All of about $75, no big deal. I remember that intersection and I take no chances now.

damn these seem to be happening more and more.

I'm in San Diego and I think I might have been snipped in an intersection, but this this was more than three weeks ago and I haven't gotten anything in the mail so I might have gotten lucky. I don't recall seeing a flash.

What's weird is that this intersection's cameras are retarded as hell, they randomly start flashing even if there are no cars in the intersection!

I was following a bunch of dumbfucks doing a left hand turn and for some reason they were all slowing down and I glance up at the left hand arrow and it's bloody red all of the sudden! I was about 3/4 done doing a left hand turn but thanks to the dumbass in the front I was moving pretty slowly.

Didn't ever see a flash (at the time I was thinking "why didn't I see a flash?) but I know these corrupt assholes aren't going to let me off the hook for their own retarded camera.

The light happened to be yellow, and I was turning right. I already passed the white line and entered the turn, the light turned red, and flash flash they got me. Camera is programmed to flash as soon as the light turns red, so even if someone is almost halfway done with their turn or driving through the intersection, the camera flashes and BOOM.. they got you

Its all for revenue, not for safety. In fact, it reduces safety, especially at night, since the flash can blind some drivers.

In my town someone took the city to court over the cameras and won. They had to disable all the red-light cameras AND repay all the people who paid for tickets from the cameras.

While they were working, you would only get a ticket if your car was completely behind the white line when the light turned red, meaning that no part of your car would've been in the intersection. If what you say is true, then you wouldn't have gotten a red-light ticket in my town. Of course, your town could enforce it different, but I think that technically you ran a late caution rather than running a red light.

I got one of those recently. I was in a dedicated right turn lane with a green turn signal. The through lanes next to me had a red light though so I got a ticket. I contested by mail and am still waiting to hear back.

OK, little tip: I know you and about 80% of the population thinks that yellow means green. It doesnt.
Yellow means yellow. When you see it coming up, you stop. Its a nice way of not giving you a ticket. When you move on a red, you broke the law. You get a ticket. Yellow prevents you from getting tickets.
Do you understand?

The REASON 80% of the population doesnt understand this is because before traffic cameras that law was not enforced. Now that the law is actually being enforced people like you are coming up with all sorts of bullshit excuses why you cant obey the law, despite the fact all this stuff was clearly explained to you in drivers ed.

I agree it may seem anal retentive. My argument is: If traffic laws were always strictly enforced people would never have thought they were a joke to begin with, and much of the nonsense we see on the road every day wouldnt happen. We also wouldnt have all the whining we do about tickets, cuz there would be fewer of them.

I recommend you suck it up and be aware there are traffic cameras in your neighborhood. All those people you see getting away with shit?
They arent getting away with shit.
They will be getting little envelopes in the mail soon. Its not exactly justice but at least the city can now pay for its illegal aliens to do half-assed work on your road so it can deteriorate in one year instead of 6 months.

Yup, let's just bend over and take it in the ass while the government raises more taxes, applies more fines, and generally proves itself to be an inept pile of bodies while socialists whinge and cry that we don't have enough of it.

Thanks for proving my point. Passing laws never bothered anyone until they started to be enforced. Now you are crying about the heavy hand of government when it was long since there and just incompetent. Soon as it gets competent you get mad.

Brilliant.

Or you just stop at the red and don't get the fine...
