So the cable guy just left me a Motorola SURFBoard High Speed Cable Modem. You can set it up using a USB Cable or an RJ45 Cable.
I first tried setting it up using RJ45 and the cable jack is definitely active, I was getting activity, but the modem and the computer weren't able to communicate with each other. (I have a 3Com Etherlink XL 3C-905BXL 10/100 Card). I used to use the card for direct connection gaming with my brother, so I deleted the file sharing and NetBEUI protocols from it and left the TCP/IP protocol installed. Windows 2000 will not let me delete this "Local Area Connection 2" however.
The cable modem installs fine and connects OK using the USB interface (installs as "Local Area Connection 3); however, I only seem to get a 1.0Mpbs connection.
Why won't my network card function? Would it have anything to do with the previous local area connection installed that I can't get rid of (Local Area Connection 2)?
Any comments and help is always appreciated, Thanks in advance
