So you get distracted by someone texting in a movie?
Stop worrying about what other people are doing, and watch the movie. Shouldn't be a problem.
But most people would rather get on their high horse and bleat on about immaturity and lack of responsibility...and let something insignificant affect them. I'm sure all the anti-cell phone zealots don't buy food or drink at the movies either. Because popcorn and drinks, which can actually make noise, really disturb my viewing experience.
oh, and it always says silence your phone...not turn it off.
Stop worrying about texting and watch the movie, shouldn't be a problem.
Thats possibly the worst argument twist Ive ever heard
He was saying you should mind your own business, and it is his choice if he messages or not, you have nothing to do with it, watch the movie and stop caring about other people
Oh and I have yet to hear the anti phone crowd say why exactly is messaging more disturbing than eating popcorn? Oh wait, IT ISNT, thats why
"Popcorn is a tradition" was the best attempt yet, but it also fails... Tradition or not, it is more disturbing, yet none of you mention it, so stop whining, you dont like having people around you, stay home
/thread
Keep seeing variants of this same arguement from the pro-phone crowd about "minding your own business". Anyways, here's the converse of your statement:
If you don't like having people around you, stay home so you don't bother anyone else with your selfish, inconsiderate and thoughtless attitude. Enjoy your phone though...
No one can "mind their own business" if you make it their business by interrupting/distracting them. If you choose to text at home in the dark or yell into your phone at night in bed, then you have a case. Like you said if "you don't like having people around you, stay home".
As to the original, it's EXACTLY cause you "Stop worrying about what other people are doing..." that's the problem. You don't give two sh!ts about disturbing anyone else and how you bother them. You chose to take your phone out, others around you can only choose to gauge their eyes out, beat you, change seats or hold a hand over the area of view with the bright light...
do you have super sensitive eyes? i really can't believe you're complaining about the brightness of a cell phone. find me a cell phone w/ a glow that compares to a mag-lite and maybe you'll have a point.
not worrying about others, not letting what they do affect you =! not giving a shit about other people. what kind of logic did you use to make those equal?
I use my cell as a flash light all the time...
Pshh. I'll turn on my cell phone LED and then you'll see how happy you are. THAT is my flashlight. You think cell phone screens are bright? Get over it.

Can one person text and not disturb the other patrons?? yes, if was done discreetly.
the point most of the pro-texting group seems to miss is there will be DOZENS of people
doing it all movie long if it was allowed. Will all those people be discreet and hold the phones
so that the light is not visible?? not likely. Why should patrons be asked to adapt to the
"new" electronic toys when it's to everyone's benefit to just shut the damm thing off!
How do you know it is to "everyone's" benefit to shut it off? Have you polled moviegoers everywhere and asked them if they like/dislike a small light eminating from the row in front of them?
Let's not get unreasonable here. I think it's hard to jump to the conclusion that it's to everyone's benefit to shut the phones off, but I think it's to everyone's benefit that phones aren't going off left and right. I'm sure we can agree that we'd all rather not have lights flashing even if it's people discreetly texting. There are things you'd rather NOT have happen. Come on. When you go with friends or with a SO or whatever you're bound to say a few words to each other during the movie right? Is it to my benefit that you STFU and don't make a sound at all? Sure. Do we kick you out of the theater for talking? No because unless you're shouting or making a scene, a few words is something we can all cope with. Similarly, I think we can all cope with a little light that chances are you can't see directly if people are texting properly, and what you see is just a small glow.
