so yeah, i just got contacts today. damn, took me a minute to get 'em in but i expected it too, but i just took em out (doc said only wear 'em 4 hours first day, 5-6 tomorrow, etc). that was not fun. took me a long ass time.

my bro has had contacts for a while and i know some kids who have 'em who all assure me it's hell for a week then it's fine.

for everyone who has contacts, how long did it take you to get used to putting 'em in and taking them out? i seem to have a much harder time getting them out.

Takes a few weeks to go from a minute to a few seconds. I went back to contacts after 6 years and it still took over a month before I got very good.

Enjoy the dryness.

pretty much immediately, just follow what the doc says. use drops if they get too dry.

10 seconds? for what?

contacts are funny with me. my eyes cannot find a single one that fits 'comfortably', meaning it never bothers me, and they never just feel like they aren't there. It's weird. lol But they usually end up feeling dry in my eyes or just feel awkward. Or they feel fine for the longest time, and then just start irritating my eyes... and if I have them in for a long time, they make my eyes tired, which just starts making my mind tired. So I have to take them out and wear my glasses to get a boost in alertness. I frequently use the optifree refresh drops, they help a lot on days where I end up wearing my contacts for a long time. Very handy.
but the contacts I have now have definitely helped with the comfort levels, that's for sure. At least compared to the last brands.

oh and I can typically put them in rather fast, but only on days when the contact cooperates, stays lint/hair free on the way into the my from my hand, and doesn't fold or bend when put in. So when it's a good day, it's in fast, and nice and irritant-free, and those days it feels great for almost all day. However, those days are rare. Something always goes wrong and then my eye just gets super irritated and wants to feel irritated as long as that damned contact stays in the eye. lol

I tried wearing contacts sometime this past summer... just took me a week or two, and I was "used to wearing them", and I was able to put them in and take them out easily.

That said, I no longer wear contacts, because my eyes are way too dry... I eventually started having to use eye drops once every 15 minutes or so, and that's when my eyes weren't otherwise bothering me.

Doesn't take more then a few days to get proficient at putting them in, but will probably take a couple weeks at getting them in "quickly". Just figure out a method that works for your eye. I look towards my nose, put it on the white of my eye, and slide the contact/move my eye back to straight. I find it easier then putting it directly onto the pupil.

Visine has Contact drops available in an ultra small container that's easy to carry around. Just don't use it after it expires..

Enjoy contacts... just don't abuse them

Make sure you don't wear your contacts too long (longer than the 2 weeks recommended) and use eye drops if they are too dry.

I ripped out the cornea in one eye a couple years ago removing the contact lens. My eyes were dry from sitting on an airplane for 2 hours (had the fan above me pretty high the whole flight because it was hot) and the lenses were about 3 weeks old. That was a bad combination. When I got home and took the contacts out, one of them adhered to my cornea and ripped it out in a perfect shape of the contact lens.

My wife was freaking out and took me to the ER. We got there in about 10 minutes and my cornea was already in the process of growing back. Still, it was not fun. Not horribly painful in my opinion, but not fun.

I remember that it took forever to get mine in when I first got them. I remember my eyes being dry a lot (but I got use to it after consuming only one bottle of eye drops). I remember being a lot more sensitive to light.

I've had mine for 11 or 12 years now. It takes five to ten seconds to put each of them in and I use a mirror out of habit rather than needing it (I can use a completely fogged up mirror, but I have a habit of leaning into something while putting them in). It takes like two seconds to pull them out, and I'm pretty aggressive in grabbing them.

My prescription has changed very, very little in the past 16 years (since I first got glasses). I had an optometrist go ape shit on me a few years ago when I told him that I hadn't had an eye exam in three years and had been buying contacts off the Web. He pointed out to me that what I was doing was illegal and I laughed at him. The concept of abusing optical prescriptions and him going so far as to tell me that it was "illegal" struck me as funny.

I took in a nearly expired precription to Costco last week and the guy there kept telling me that it was nearly expired and that I should really have another eye exam ($70 for contacts). I told him that I'd pass and he began trying to stare me down to emphasize the danger that I'm subjecting myself to...

Is this a California thing, or is it the same everywhere?

i've waited maybe 2 years to get contacts. now when I need them the most, I'm broke as haCK..

REAL STORY AND INSIDER!! (supposedly, heard it from my sister)

I heard a story of a women not changing out her contacts, she let it go for two months..

She can't get it out.. she goes to the doctor.

Doctor attemps to pull out the contacts from her eyes, they have dried onto her pupils... SCARY

now.. they are anxious to just pull 'em out! ..nerves pop. I don't know what happened after that, but I heard from my sister that a part of her face was badly damaged.

MORAL: procrastinators receive consequences just like everyone else; short term, long term.

THE END

Where do you guys buy your contacts? I would rather buy them online if I could get better prices or more color choices.

yeah it'll take a week or 2 to adjust to them. make sure you dont rub your eyes that much either. I remember when I first got them I rubbed my eyes and the lens folded and went up into my eyelid. I was in class and kept looking on the floor since I thought they fell out even though I felt something tingly in my eye. Then I borrowed a friend's compact and found them lodged way up in my eye. Took like another 10 minutes trying to get them back down. Man did I feel like an idiot holding a compact for that long trying to get that thing out.
