I read somewhere that it takes about half the time that you were together to recover from it. Granted its not the same for everyone.
But I got dumped a little over 3 weeks ago. And I have to say it sucks. The first 2 weeks were killer. I would think about it at school, work, etc. Just keep going out and talking to friends. Its helping me a lot. The whole "not talking" to her as much or at all is really the hard part. Once you can get over that and put the ball in her court you will feel better. Wait for her to come around, but still show her that you are a better person.
You dont have to prove yourself. Either she sees the things that you are doing to improve or she doesnt. Just be content with knowing that you did everything that you could. And it just didnt work out right now.

Id say the amount of time it takes to get over it is how involved/in love you were with the girl.

When my last girl broke up with me, I was devastated for the first week, feeling pretty sh*tty the second, and by the end of the month, I was pretty much good. By the end of the second month, I dont know why I was with her for so long. It was one of those waiting around until she did it situations. Gave me the same reasons etc.

Its been said before, but Ill say it again. Their are other girls. You never know, you might even improve on the last one in very many ways. I thought my ex was the shiet, but my current is like ex-gf 2.0. All of the good, and very very little of the bad.

Girls will always say stuff like that hoping they can keep you as an option just in case their new pursuit doesn't pan out. Don't be a sucker or a Plan B. Cut off all contact if possible and don't let her think she can come back any time she wants.
