gift registry at Macy's, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn

DO have a good time on your bachelor party
DON'T take pictures on your bachelor party

Gifts: Humidor w/ cigars

Rent your tuxes: DON'T BUY unless you're planning to get married again and again and again.

CONGRATS!

I just got married two weeks ago, so I can offer some tips.

Create an account on theknot.com. It provides checklists, hundreds of articles, and other pointers on how to plan the wedding.

You and your fiancee need to start by choosing a date. Once you lock that in place, then you need to decide how large of an affair you want it to be.

After that, just follow the checklist.

As for honeymoon locations, there are numerous spots across the globe that are suitable. We chose Maui as our honeymoon destination, largely because the time of our trip was off season and we managed to get an incredible deal on Expedia for travel, rental car, and hotel in a very nice resort.

Depending on the timing of your honeymoon, I would find a location that is currently off season in terms of tourist travel...usually how you can find the best deals.

Other then that, start budgeting aggressively, and be prepared to see a side of your lady that you never new existed...and pray that you didnt end up with a Bridezilla.

We registered at Crate & Barrel and Macy's...essentially covered all of our gift needs.

As for bridesmaids and groomsmen, we had a small wedding party...we purchased jewelry and evening bags for the bridesmaids to wear and use during the wedding...for the groomsmen, it varied...Things Remembered is a good store for getting engraved gifts if you are having trouble finding suitable gifts.

3. i got my boys monogrammed engraved sterling silver cufflinks and belt buckles. no idea what my wife got the girls.

4. rent tuxes. bridesmaids typically buy their dresses. i think our girls got the dresses at lord & taylor or macy's or something.

get the planning done as soon as possible. lock everything in. this will give you the nice excuse of, "we can't change that, we've already made a different plan" for when parents try to make 'suggestions.'

Ya, did you ask the parents and all that jazz?

Yes, I did the traditional 'ask the parents' thing.

We like to kayak (been a few times) so to do something a little different we went kayaking and in the middle of it we stopped for lunch and I proposed there. Then we had two more hours of kayaking before we left... we were tired.

Also, about the bachelor party and stuff, we're not really going to do the typical stuff since we're both Christians.

It looks like the weddingchannel.com provides something similar. Either one better than the other?

Let the wife plan the wedding. Let her earn that ring you bought her. She'll probably veto every decision you want to make anyway.

Check out David's Bridal for the wedding dress/bridesmaid dresses.

Too much to say here and now...
however, accept that your otherwise calm and loving gf/fiancee that will turn into Bridezilla at least for a few hours durring the wedding planning process. Go with the flow and you will be ok.

Don't start nit-picking everything. In the end and long run, the extra few $$ you will spend on real flowers or more candles won't matter.

Really try and write your own vows to each other. It makes a difference. Make sure to keep hard copies of them and save them some place so that in 5, 10, 20 years you still will be able to read them to each other.

Don't register at too many places. two... three at the most. Pick all different types of gift prices.
Congrats, enjoy the time being engaged.

We found "The Knot" more useful then the "Wedding Channel," only because it offers a lot of free tools for managing guest lists, gifts received, and other things that will very quickly become the center of your attention.

The biggest wall you will probably hit very quickly is budget...weddings aren't cheap, and the wedding industry exploits couples like there is no tomorrow.

We found a nice hotel with an all inclusive package for flowers, cake and food...with a wedding planner thrown in for good measure.

What part of the country do you live in...I might be able to give you some referrals, depending on the budget you had in mind.

Also, our photographer was amazing...we actually flew him into town for the wedding, and he came out cheaper then most local options.

My fiancee and I are doing a joint Bachelor/Bacherlorette party. Not sure what yet, but I have been to quite a few bachelor parties and she has been to lots of bacherlotte parties and we both agree we want a joint one big party.

OMG does it fly by!

Nicely done. I got the fellas nice Leatherman tools.

4. rent tuxes. bridesmaids typically buy their dresses. i think our girls got the dresses at lord & taylor or macy's or something.

Rental FTW. If in the NYC area, go with Barry's from NJ. Best service I could have imagined (delivery!!!).

Fort Myers, FL

I really have no idea at how much weddings cost, but we're going to set the the date at our church soon. I'd definitely like to keep the cost at a reachable price but having it look nice.

:Q

I just went out to a bar with some of my friends, most of whom came from out of town. It was a blast reminiscing with them. Wouldn't have been the same with the women.
