Just got "fired" from work!!!

Well, here's what happened. This past december I initially had decided to resigned, but later decided that I would stay on part time
for two days a week. Basically I wasn't being challenged and the work was getting redundant. No way I can sit for 8 hours and fix ppl's computer all day long. Believe me, it is very boring, but I stayed on just to get a paycheck.

Anyways, so yesterday I called into work and one of the secretary told me two computer guys were there and I knew right away who one of them was. Later on that evening my office manager called and confirmed that they found someone for the job on a full time basis. I'm pissed that no one consulted me. She's mad cuz this guy was introduced and she never had a chance to interview him. It seems corporate likes to run the show and now look what happens.

Before I decided to leave I made sure my reasoning was right. First I hate those morons down @ corporate. They make you feel stupid asking millions of questions if you're capable of doing stuff. Come on man! Second, I was doing them a favor in a way by not having them pay me for the hours I would sit and do nothing, but surf the internet. Grrrr...Now I'm pissed.

Anyways, everyone in the office including the doctors all love me and agreed that the position isn't a full time gig. I just feel bad for this kid. He'll find out soon enough that corporate really sucks and they're all power hungry.

Oh yea...he (IT Director) told my office manager that he was pissed @ me for installing Linux on a company's computer. First of all, screw him and the computer wasn't even on the network. It was something I was playing with when my day was going so slow. He ended up installing Windows 98 on it. If he knew anything about technology and our policy, he should've known that we run Windows 2000 and not 98. Moron! I'm going in on Wednesday to pick up my stuff. No way am I doing them a favor by showing the new guy the things he needs to know.

Sorry...count your losses, build a bridge and get over it. BTW, Get a new attitude on your way across the bridge.

I've been in the workplace for over 30 yrs and I've seen your type (what's the company doing for me?) come and go. I must say, I'm glad to see your type GO! This is an ADULT world, get used to it!

What the hell is wrong with lilcam's attitude? Either a lot was edited out of that post or Mikelh, you've been working a bit too many hours and need to maybe relax a bit more and mingle with the younger workers.

Aceman, the above is what's wrong with his attitude!

Imagine that! Not being allowed to do what one wants to do with a company's property!

It's all about self-discipline! Practice it! Then you won't have to blame others for your situation.

I was working part time in 2000.. After about 6 months, bossman tells me, at lunch, they need someone full time. This was right at the end of the semester, so I could work full time until January, and I thought that they would let me. Later that afternoon I get a company wide email looking for internal replacements for me.. Gee whiz. That was on a Wednesday. On Monday, my next day to work since I had finals that week he told me, he calls me and says "Just so you understand, we don't need you to work any more." Gee thanks, 0 days notice, don't even give me a chance to work a couple weeks, or try to get night classes or anything. I didn't even get a chance to clean up my workarea, or remove email from the computer, or anything like that. I left Wednesday thinking that I had a couple weeks to work still.

Such is life.

Wow! Glad I get paid and praised for tinkering around with something and God forbid, come up with progress and a better way of doing things!!!! (And I work for the government) Before that I was paid by a corporation that owned independent hotels that paid me to go in and mess with the cash registers/computers to see if the software was hackable by a common employee.

Without people like that progress and technology never advance.

And this is not a flame towards you Mikelh just my personal insight.... You just seem like the type of person that believes in the theory of "By God we did things this way for the past 30-50 years and it worked and we'll continue to do things in that same old style" Progress stalls!

Was that his job? If you are hired to innovate then that is whet you do. If you are hired to work that is what you do. TOW DIFFERENT JOBS. Sounds like his job was do what he was told, he didn't, he got fired. I really don't see the problem here looks like a direct cause and effect relationship.
