Ummm, when I follow the link in the original post the 43" is $895.00 and can't be added to your cart. The 51" is only $799.00 ($999.00 for HD). What's up with that?

I'll share my Hot Deal from last November when I got mine...

BB....had the previous week ad and a Internet price for the Phillips 55" 16x9 HDTV ($2199 at the time).....I asked if they PM'd, they said yes... $200 off right there. Asked if I could get last weeks $100 GC with any HDTV purchase, He offered $100 off instead. Said I wanted the 24 month no interest finacing from previous week,...ok. (since paid off) Wanted the Free Delivery from that ad. Ok. Wanted the free Leather Recliner and Ottoman from that ad. Ok. Added the BB ext warranty (only one that covers Bulb replacement..at $100+ a pop and 2 year life, worth getting 4 yr Ext warranty. $200 I think)

Had 2 Philips rebates, 1) Free LX3500 HTB (Dolby 5.1 and DTS, Progressive Scan DVD player, ok speakers and sub..$350 retail) 2) $80 after 4 DVD purchases.

The TV is on 5am till 11pm+ 7 days a week since then. Got 900 Channels from Cox....DTV and so far HD for CBS/NBC/ESPN/DISC/HBO/SHO with many more to come.

You can get the 60" now for that price. Review of it in Sound and Vision Magazine 2 months ago..did very well.

Never base you decision on what you see on the sales floor. Every TV sold is too bright...that is for showroom "Wow!". But you miss delicate detail in shadows and more. Every TV should be tuned up with one of the DVD's from AVIA or the others. The TV's on the showroom floor are unpacked and turned on 12+ hours a day with no tuneup. The best looking one is usually the more recent one to be unpacked. Do your research and buy with knowledge. Great place to learn: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/

Cheers!

Well after reading your post I have no idea how much you paid for your Phillips(lol) I'm guessing around $100=tax. I paid $1506 (otd) for my 55 inch Samsung hdtv, but at the same time $450 for a 43 bigscreen is a great price. For $450 your not targeting the same people, few people have a budget from $450-$2000 for a bigscreen.

I don't think anybody is trying to pass this off as a high quality television set, but it is a great price for what you get.

I went ahead and purchased the 43incher. I currently have a RCA 26" round tube in the living room, and it couldn't really have a worse picture (I am really not picky about my TV). I will finally be able to hook up my DVD with component now instead of A/V jacks. Just that with the 480p and larger screen was worth the ~$500 after shipping and rebate. If it only lasts 2 years I have made my money back vs buying a 3x more expensive one now. I will get HDTV when my local cable company starts using it or forces me to switch to digital cable with HDTV.

I have a question for RobsTV....

Isn't it true that ALL big screens are disposable. Built to last 4 years period. Plan on replacing power supply modules, or convergence boards (unless you want to solder the cold solder joints yourself). I praise Apex for selling a big screen for what it is worth.

I have yet to have a big screen last more than 4-5 years without having to either solder cold solder joints or replace modules.

I say it is about time. There is nothing these tv's wont' have go wrong that any other brand big screen won't have go wrong. Maybe just a bit sooner. But hey.... if you have to get in there in 4-5 years and resolder.... what the heck is wrong with doing it a year or two sooner and paying half (or less) the cost.

Personally I think ALL big screens should be BOLDLY stated as "Disposable", good for 5 years tops.

If you break that down...... on an average big screen tv of $2300.00... that is just like saying that it will cost you $40-$50 per month to own a big screen. I think that just plain sucks.

I also find it bothersome that almost all tv repairmen act like they have no idea what would cause the problem that 99.8% of all big screen tv owners come to realize. The problem I see most common, is "why does my tv shut off all by itself". It is almost ALWAYS, cold solder joints, on either the PS module or the convergence board. Yet so many repairmen act like the sets shutting off by themselves is a big mystery.

Apex is disposable before you even buy it.

I guarantee you there will be at least a 50% failure rate on these things.
That FW thread is going to get interesting when people start receiving non-functional units.

You're scaring me. My 53" RCA is going on 7 years and also made a 4500 mile trip from WA to FL in the back of a Uhaul with a few hundred pounds of stuff stacked on top of it for the whole ride. Oh, I forgot 3 local moves each on the 3rd floor and only one 1 other person helping me bounce it up and down stair by stair. Are you telling me my TV is going to go out 2 years ago?

I hear ya Wag.... but on the upside at least when it craps out your more likely to still be under warranty. Get a good repairman in there while still under warranty... and get the sucker soldered up tight. Then maybe you will have a set that will last a while.

Nothing worse than realizing that your manufactures warranty (1 yr generally), and the extended warranty won't do diddly for you. Funny how that extended 3 year warranty you paid for gets you juuuuuuuuuuust up to the 4 year threshold, right to about the time the set goes bye bye. Those insurance/warranty guys.... are such kidders aren't they.

A friend of mine had a big screen TV for 15 years before he had any major problems. My last big screen was going strong for 6 years when I sold it and upgraded. My experience has been that quality TVs last.

Ah.... jeezzzzuuuuuuuusss... I also know a guy who had his $10,000.00 Mitsubishi piano black finish big screen go out in 3 weeks. What's your point?

Cmon guys.... I did not post this to argue with anyone. Do some research. I did not make anything up. Call a local big screen repairman and ask him some questions. He'll explain the 4-5 year lifespan. If your big screen lasted longer than that, you got lucky. And it does not matter what brand you buy either. It used to be folks thought Mitsubishi's would outlast the pack. Not so anymore. Just ask. And Kuhlman.... we are talking about rear projections here (15yrs ago?).

Once again, I applaud Apex for selling a big screen for what they are worth.

I have a 48" Toshiba projection TV, purchased in 1994. I had to replace a chip on the convergence board several years ago (did it myself, about $100, including the service manual). Still gets a good picture (knock on wood).

How do you know what the Apex TV is worth? It may be overpriced if there is a high rate of defects or if a large percentage of them start having a series of major problems within 6-12 months. You may curse the day you ever bought a cheap TV. Then you have the issue of service. How good is Apex's service? It better be good or these TVs better be built well because they will be overwhelmed with service calls if these TVs are representative of the prices they are selling them for. Will you wait weeks for someone to get the part to fix it only to have it go out again or have some other problem? None of us know. You seem to be implying that Apex are using the exact same parts and are of the same quality as all the rest so you may as well buy an Apex because all projection TVs will die in 4-5 years. That's a silly position when you have no facts to back up what you are saying.

There are all sorts of hot deals on projection TV's by respected companies if you look for them and you are resourceful. I bought a 55" Mitsubishi 16x9 HDTV for $1249. I paid only $138 to get 5 years of warranty coverage. Are you saying I should have gone with an Apex?

I'm also going to pass on this deal, for 1 reason and I'll post it: I already have a big screen.

But this is a great deal, for all of you who compain that this is not 16x9 or it's not hdtv just makes me laugh because it's also only $500 a deal that's hard to beat.

ChangHong, the Chinese brand that makes Apex TVs, sold 12 million units last year, because 6 million were defective. How efficient the market is! Also, they are 2nd largest TV maker in the world, because they screwed up half of their consumers.
Looking at where it is today, I am not talking about only US market, I find what you said had to be B.S.
BTW, it jumped to #1 on Amazon's sales rank. I guess all the bashers showed up in these forums but real consummers just jumped on the deal. Mark my words, If things keep going this way, Apex will rule US market, just like how they kicked Japanese brands out of Chinese market.
