Hey guys I searched to see if this was a re-post but I didn't see it anywhere so here goes. I just got back from goodguys and it seems the Sony/Ericsson T68m for Cingular is on sale for 99.99 at Goodguys in No. California (concord/bay area.) Then there is a 50 dollar mail in rebate from Cingular, and a 50 dollar mail in rebate from Goodguys. And on top of the rebates you get a 50 dollars of free cell phone accessories when you purchase the phone. To take part of this deal you must be a new subscriber and sign up for a 1 year service contract.

T68m 99.99
cingular rebate -50
goodguys rebate -50
---------------------------------
FREE YEA!

The only thing that sucks about this deal is that goodguys doesn't carry accessories for the t68m so you can't get anything useful with the 50 dollar instore cellpone accessory credit. I spent about 20min arguing with the manager trying to get a gift card but he wouldn't give in so I ended buying my mom 50 bucks of accessories for her nokia 8290.

I have called an confirmed this deal is available all throughout California.

*****Just confirmed that this deal is still going on, I don't know when the end date for the sale is but they tell me that goodguys sale's end on saturdays so you'd still better hurry.

Ok I've been hearing the phone price is dead, but this deal may get hotter for those of you who have jumped on this deal. Now I know this may border on the brag and moan side, but I think it may help people who are new subscribers to cingular.

After I signed up for this phone in No. Cal. I kicked myself because ATT had a better rate plan than cingular's 29.99 local plan(300any/1000 night/weekend). ATT offered a plan for 34.99 that had 500any/unlimited night/weekend, no long distance + no roaming and for me this plan blew away what cingular was offering. So I looked over my contract and found that I had 15 days to cancel my contract without paying the 175 dollar cancellation fee, I just have return my phone and pay the activation fee and pay a prorated monthly service charge. So i decide while the phone is ultra cool, the ATT rate plan was more valuable to me. Well I called up cingular and told them I wanted to cancel my contract and the rep asked me why and I explained the ATT rate plan. Well the rep told me that cingular had a similar rate plan for 39.99 (500any/3000 night/weekend, no long distance + no roaming + roll over minutes) and offered it to me and I refused saying it cost too much. The rep then immediately offered to price match their 39.99 plan to ATT 34.99 and threw in free activation! Now I have the phone I want with the rate plan I want, this ROCKS!

While I know rate plans between cell phone providers very in CA, if you are a new subscriber to cingular you should check out the competition because if there is a better rate plan you can easily take advantage of it with cingular. Now this was inspired by the pervious posts of people renegotiate their contracts for more minutes after their contract ended, I guess when you threaten to cancel your contract cingular will cave to keep you as customer. If this works in the same fashion as contract renegotiations you may be able to call up and just complain until they give you more minutes and threaten cancellation, I?d say you should only complain if there isn't a good rate plan by a competitor to PM. Also, above all remember be polite when you call, I have many friends who've worked in as phone reps and you won't get anywhere with rudeness

Interesting deal. Is it possible to get the phone w/o a contract for a reasonable price? I upgraded my phone six months ago but wanna upgrade again.

PLPunk are you sure this deal is at all goodguys? can anyone confirm this? i'm hoping to cancel my order for the v60g from amazon because its taking forever to ship, and i think this t68 is a better deal with a better plan from cingular.

I don't know if this deal is regional or not. I purchased the phone in the concord California store, and it was ringing up in their system as 99.99. I have just confirmed the price with the San Jose, Walnut creek, San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles store

This is a great phone. I've had this phone for a few days now and it is so much better than my old Nokia 5160 and my Motorola Timeport. I got this phone with Voicestream service which, like Cingular, is a part of T-Mobile. I got it for $38 before a $50 rebate in NYC Chinatown.

Get this phone if you can!

um, you sure cingular is part of T-Mobile? I think you are mistaken about that as there is not mention of that at all on cingulars webpage.

t-mobile is just the new name for voicestream. cingular hasn't merged with them (yet).

If I were to get the phone withOUT activation, since I'm already a customer, will I still at least get the Gg MIR?

i read that t-mobile uses cingular's network in the CA area (as voicestream didnt have anything in CA), so its the same coverage in that area, but i never heard anything about a merger or anything between the two.

i got one today, thanks to PKpunk for the deal, its charging up with the red led on right now. seems very cool.

i hope the cingular service is ok in SD, im gonna be headed down there for school real soon

Hmmm In San diego, if I just want the phone I was told there is a 200$ fee or something like that. I'm still trying to find out if that is true from the other stores right now.

Jumped on this deal sunday as i have been looking for a phone since the networks are changing.
The phone is definitely cool, but reception is torrid. Barely can get any signal in my house, service is so so even with 5 bars.

Just to give a reference point. I live in Newport Beach and commute to irvine (near spectrum).

The signal bars look good when you look at them but when you actually put the thing near your ear, they drop a couple points.

You might be able to improve service with a firmware upgrade, but i haven't confirmed yet. Check out this website, as it has a grip load of information on this particular phone. Tsixtyeight.com

The rebate for the good guys expire on 9/15 while the cingular one expires 9/30.

I would wait until the first week of sept so at least you can get some accesories ( i couldn't get anything with it...)

I am gonna return this phone. While sweet looking, not very usefull when its purpose is really needed.

If you guys want the newer version of this phone (t68i), i understand att ws has them for 199. They come with a base charger and a bluetooh headset. Good guys has a 75 dollar rebate on it.

FYI. Your mileage might vary.

Hey Darthkim, where did you find the t68i for 199? was it at goodguys?? Because I didn't see it at attws.com. And is that 199 with 75 already taken off? But most importantly, where was this deal.

Thanks in advacne

The best buys here in Orlando have the t68i for $199. Then you can get 25%-50% if you sign up to the service provider (in this case, AT&T wireless).

I guess you can find the t68i's in locations which have AT&T's GSM/GPRS coverage.
