Just got my 5970: Now with some benches

Holy gawd. I know the reviews and everyone said the card was big. But the pictures just do not do it justice. The card is F'ing huge! I'm glad I have a full size tower.

Looking forward to some fun gaming tonight. Now all I need is to pick up a couple more monitors for some eyefinity goodness.

BTW, I thought I would pass on that Sapphire, "is thinking about the environment" by making their packaging out of 100% recyclable paper. It says so on the box!

Never mind that the product inside the packaging draws an enormous amount of power under load.

Now that is truth in advertising ... Sapphire is finally "thinking" about the environment; they did not say they are doing anything to improve it

Congrats to the Op, though. I hope you enjoy that beast. Too bad you lost out on the "grill" function of Fermi :/. Endorsed by George Foreman himself! I believe he uses a two-way SLI setup as a waffle maker <-- Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Thanks guys. I am sure I will enjoy the card. I'd post some benches, but Keysplayr has essentially the same system I do (my setup is below; only difference b/w me and Keys is the sound card and case) and he/she has already posted a suite of benchmarks in another thread.

Will let you all know my impressions once I get the thing installed. Exercising more self denial until my 1 year old goes to bed.

Nice! I just got one myself yesterday. Put the Danger Den block on it this morning. If you play Bad Company 2 and have the horizontal line problem (probably a crossfire sync issue) let me know. I can point you in the right direction. Disabling ULPS in the registry fixed it for me. Hopefully ATI will have another profile patch out soon to fix it...or drivers in a few weeks. Congrats on the nice card man!

Sentry2: No issues with a horizontal line in BFBC2 that I noticed. I am having some issues with flickering textures. Seems to be an issue with the last flavor of the catalyst AI.

Need to do some futzing with the computer over the weekend. It didn't seem to like the install of the new card that much. I'm seeing lots of weird slow downs when running desktop applications that I did not see with my old card. Shouldn't be a power supply issue (I'm using a Tagan 1100 W psu). Maybe the throttling issue others have talked about?

I did manage to get in some gaming last night using the card at stock settings. Ran all three benchmarks in Just Cause 2 (1680X1050; 16X AF; 8x AA) with all settings maxed and vertical sync on. The only time I saw less than 60 FPS was in the urban demo where the lighting goes nuts, and even then it only dipped to ~55 FPS.

I also ran benchmarks in Dirt2, and was seeing ~75-80 FPS in DX11 with all settings maxed.

Very, very, very nice card.

I noticed some some texture flickering in BC2 once but that was it(running the 10.3b drivers). Have you ran Vantage yet? I ran it last night and got P31885(gpu score) with the card @ 1GHz/1.2GHz (gpu/mem). That's pretty close to the ~36k I got when I had the 295 quad SLI setup(@ ~700MHz gpu).

Just got my Sapphire as well. It is hilariously long even when put next to my first gen GTX260, which I used to think was big. Antec 1200 handles it fine, though.

I accidentally got it to 100C today because I forgot to ramp up the fan speed with a considerable overclock

Otherwise it idles about 18C cooler than my GTX260's in SLI in the same case.

What drivers are you running ? Also, DiRT 2, was that with 8xAA ? With 4xAA you should get 85,3min / 102 avg.

And do get three monitors, it's awesome and the HD 5970 has the power for it

OC is planned, but I want to get the system where I want first. Having some odd issues as noted in one of my earlier posts. Since I've only had a few hours with the card in my rig and was focused entirely on "playing," I haven;t taken the time to figure out what is wrong yet.

But at a miniumum, I'm going to try to OC to the stock speeds for a 5870 and see what happens. I expect that I will be quite CPU limited based on the fact that I can only run a max resolution of 1680x1050. I'd love a larger (or additional) monitor, but my 20WGMX2 is in fine working order, my budget is tight due to the card purchase, and there is no way in hell my wife won't notice a new 24" monitor sitting on my desk (especially with the old one right next to it!).
