i just got this monitor today.

pros
- games look, and run great
- good brightness and contrast (what settings do u guys use with these?)
- text is good
- no dead pixels
- decent viewing angles

cons
- slight light leakage/viewing angle problem on top and right sides
- menu buttons are annoying to use since they're on the bottom
- DVDs look TERRIBLE. I get that twinkling effect, and it's really noticable (ONLY in fullscreen mode. window mode it looks perfect). Some people have said they don't get it, while others they do.

questions
- monitor installed three diff display monitors in the device manager, and i'm not able to install the drivers off the cd (tried all three).

edit: Twinkling effect fixed! I installed some new nvidia beta drivers and it went away. I'm SOOOO relieved now

Thanks for the review, I've been keeping my eye on this monitor. So overall, are you satisfied with it?

Just got mine today as well. Replacing a 17" crt so quite a step up.

I agree that the buttons on the bottom of the screen are a little bit of a pain but I can live with it. If there's a dead pixel, I sure can't find it. Games look beautiful - been testing it on BFV, UT2K4 and CoD tonight. BFV gives me a little blurring but it may be due to my 9600pro - not sure it has enough to keep the fps up enough to avoid this. Turned down the resolution a bit (1280x1024 isn't in BFV anyway - may be part of the prob) so the text is less sharp but the gameplay is smoother.

No problems at all in UT2K4 or CoD, none that I can see anyway and ghosting was the thing keeping me from going LCD for so long. BTW, so far I've only used the analog connection. I want to stay with that for a day or so playing till I get a good feel for what it does before I plug in the DVI so I can really tell how much that helps.

Overall, I think it's great. No regrets at all.

I received my Hyundau L90D+ today, its plugged in now and i dont think there are any dead pixels.

Can anyone tell me how to test a screen for dead/stuck pixels?

And any of you Hyundai owners out there that use DVI, can you tell me how i adjust screen settings for a DVI connection the Adobe Manual is kind of cryptic in that respect. Also where are the drivers, Windows has it as a plug and play monitor right now and that just cant be good for things at all.

pixel tester, very cool program! http://www.laptopshowcase.co.uk/downloads.php?id=1

overall i'm VERY satisfied once i worked out the twinkling issue. i've never had an lcd before so i can't really compare, but all in all... this thing looks great!

for now i have my CRT set next to my LCD, and wow. The luminosity, and sharpness makes my CRT look like poo! I don't kno if it's a fact, or not... but i think lcd makes things look sharper than crt. Another advantage is that when moving between yrs at college will be easier since LCDs take up less space, and are wayyy lighter. I don't think i'll be going back to crt again.

I'm gonna receive mine next week and I really appreciate you sharing your experience.
Thanks!

PS: I'll let you if mine has that red hue (can it be adjusted with nvidia driver?)

just got this monitor from chiefvalue, who i may add, are the b@lls for free shipping, left friday got here this afternoon. damn this thing is awesome right out of the box.

i can't seem to open the drivers on the install CD, anyone have this problem?

did the base "click" together? when i set it in the base there was no audible click or anything, it seems pretty secure and doesn't want to really come out. but looking at the base it appears there might be a couple tabsthat are supposed to make better contact or interlock into the base? i just don't want this beauty tipping over as i sleep or something.

so far tho, this thing is great, haven't even hooked up the dvi yet, thats next.

I LOVE how the buttons are on the bottom. Since I don't use them that much (who does?), it leaves the face of the monitor clean and simple. Looks sharp and professional. I'm shocked that such a great performing monitor can be so inexpensive and not look like utter crap at the same time. Usually if you pay so little for a monitor, you suffer perofrmance and looks, or at best you get one or the other. You get both with this monitor.

I don't get the twinkling effect, but I've heard it can go away after time, or that it only shows up in certain movies, have you tested it repeatedly and with different movies?

i e-amiled hyundai regarding the drivers. the monitor looks so good now i don't even know if they're needed. just seems like a useless CD at this point. hyundai has a download for the L90D which i'm guessing would be the same for the + model, butt i think i'll just wait til i hear from them.

i agree about the buttons, they're just fine where they are, out of the way

only minor complaint i have, and i knew about it anyway, is the viewing angle is very limited. doesn't matter to me and it seems all low response times mean lower angles, but some might want to consider it.

hang tight bigpow, it will be worth the wait. the monitor s awesome.

as for the viewing angles, now that i've had a chance to do more stuff, especially gaming, it looks like the angles are really only "bad" in text. its not terrible but being my first LCD it kind of took me by surprise.

as for the red hue, i'm not really seeing anything like that but i haven't watched DVD's yet, later on tonite i guess.

out of curiosity, does anyone know if it's possible to hook up the integrated speakers as a dedicated center channel for a speaker setup? I have some Klipsch 4.1's and I was hoping I could hook up the speakers into the center channel to make it a makeshift 5.1 setup. Anyone know anything about this?

BTW, I like my new L90D+ as well. I have another LCD to compare it to, and I have to say this fixes the ghosting issue. I watched a DVD, and it looks decent, but I haven't compared the DVD quality between the 2 yet.

got it today.
one dead pixel near the center (blue) very noticeable with black background

Construction is mediocre. The supplied VGA cables are low-end.
The pin to adjust height is just plain stupid.
Power cable needs to be longer.
Stand needs to be stronger (more rigid).
When I'm typing, the monitor wiggles back & forth gently... this is bad
Can't even imagine what it'd be during a deathmatch

Other than that, monitor seems to be okay.

Did some tests with DVDs & WMVHD clips, color repro is so-so.
No ghosting though.

Overall, my 22" NEC CRT was better
If only they made CRT lighter (duh!)

Well,

I'm a new user, but I just purchased this monitor and came across this thread. So I figured I'd shine some light upon the subject.

After running the dead pixel program I noticed maybe 3 dead pixels, but only with very carful scrutiny. This monitor is wonderful. Basically it is about 20" viewable, and the colors are gorgeous.

This page is a great review of this monitor :

Toms Hardware Review
Also it is important to keep in mind, that with CRT monitors, if I understand this correctly, it has an electron gun on one end, and a phosphor screen at the other end. The electron gun uses a high voltage of around 10kV to 50kV. This high amount of energy is used to project a steam of very small particles of electricity. These electrons are projected at the phosphor screen which absorbs their energy, creating a spark of light., which creates the colors we see..

Perhaps it's just me, but I've never been too keen on having an electron gun aimed at my head for 8 hours a day.

LCD dead pixels work like this, and in most cases they shouldn't be too frightening.

Active matrix TFT LCD panels achieve their beautiful images, in part, because of the individual transistor placed at each pixel which controls the backlight shining through a given pixel (see Figure 1). Occasionally, these individual transistors will short, or otherwise malfunction, resulting in a defective pixel. There are two phenomenon which define a defective LCD pixel: A "lit" pixel, which appears as one or several randomly-placed red, blue and/or green pixel elements on an all-black background; or a "missing" or "dead" pixel, which appears as a black dot on all-white backgrounds. (By comparison, CRT defective pixels exhibit themselves as black holes in an all white raster. This is due missing phosphor material or an obstruction in the shadow mask.)

The "lit" pixel phenomenon, more common than "missing / dead" pixels, results when a transistor occasionally shorts on and results in a permanently "turned-on" (red, green or blue) pixel. There are some possible corrective measures, such as "killing" a transistor using a laser, however, this just creates black dots which would appear on a white background. Fixing the transistor itself is not possible after assembly. Additionally, it is not possible to turn a "lit" pixel off, except for the aforementioned laser method, which essentially just makes the transistor in-operational, thus resulting in a black dot.

Turned on or "lit" pixels are a fairly common occurrence in LCD manufacturing. Like their CRT counterparts, LCD manufacturers have set limits as to how many defective pixels are acceptable for a given LCD panel, based on user feedback and manufacturing cost data. The goal in setting these limits is to maintain reasonable product pricing while minimizing distraction from defective pixels for maximum user comfort. Considering the number of pixels contained in a LCD panel, this defective rate is quite minute. For example, a panel with a native resolution of 1024x768 pixels contains a total of 2,359,296 red, green and blue pixels per panel (1024 x 768x3 = 2,359,296). Therefore, a panel with 20 lit pixels would have a pixel defect rate of: (20/2,359,296)*100 = 0.0008%.

I had three. And I could barely see them.

The main thing to also keep in mind is with this monitor, it's highest refresh rate is 75hz, my old crt could go up to 120. Also the screen does take alot of configuration to get the color to be perfect. Of course it really helps if your video card has color correction capabilites like most ati and Nvidia's do.

I played a dvd today using powerdvd and didn't notice any 'twinkling'

that's not to say that there isn't any, and as I watch a few more I'll come back and let you guys know.

How about regular, non dvd quality video?

well, divx, and xvid codecs seem to work great. No twinkling here either.

Biggest pain in the back with this monitor is calibrating the color for each type of software application you're using.

All in all I'd give this a 9.5/10

What beta drivers did you install? What kind of nVidia card do you have and are the drivers universal like the normal ones?

I'm also curious whether or not this twinkling effect mentioned above with DVDs is also a problem on ATI cards.
