I'm also curious whether or not this twinkling effect mentioned above with DVDs is also a problem on ATI cards.

System Specs :

Intel p4 3.2ghz 800fsb
1gb 400mhz OCZ platinum Dual Channel
Nvidia GforceFX 5700Ultra 128mb
Windows XP SP 1

- Drivers (nvidia modified) DNA drivers www.guru3d.com
-Videp application - zoomplayer www.afterdawn.com

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The highest this monitor will go is 1280x1024 @ 75Hz, the digital mode does the same resolution but only @ 60Hz. If you are trying to get extreamly high resolutions (ie 1600x1200) this isn't the monitor for you. However, the 1280x1024 looks nice on this huge screen.

By the way, I'll be getting an ATI x800xt later this week. Hopefully it won't have any twinkling.. but I'll let you know

the twinkling effect is a problem related to nvidia cards as far as i know, but its fixed by using some newer video drivers. im using a BFG 6800U OC btw.

btw, since the Max resolution for analog is 75Hz at 1280 x 1024
while DVI gives 60hz max at 1280 x 1024

then what is the point of 8ms refresh rate?
shouldn't it be about 100Hz accordingly?

The + series has speakers? I can't see 'em in the pictures! I thought it was only the regular version (L90D I think) that had speakers..

The L90D+ would be completely unequaled if they dropped the speakers and lowered the price a little.

Here is a graphic designers view on this panel.

Pros:
- Very Bright
- Asthetics are fantastic
- Swivel Telescoping screen
- Big Display
- DVI and Analog connector
- 8ms
- SHARP as a knife

Cons
- 24-bit color, not true (gradients will dither)
- 8ms still ghosts, but you need an extreme video card to even process that type of framerate
- SHARP as a knife...great unless you are gaming and dont have anti-aliasing. I have a 6800gt so I'm ok, but just take note.

I got mine for 369 free shipping at newegg and received it the other day. Great panel. The color is the only thing that bugs me, but hopefully nvidia will give a smoothing option in their drivers soon. They have sharpening, not I dont think they have smoothing, unless I'm wrong. If so, someone tell me.

i can't seem to open the drivers on the install CD, anyone have this problem?

did the base "click" together? when i set it in the base there was no audible click or anything, it seems pretty secure and doesn't want to really come out. but looking at the base it appears there might be a couple tabsthat are supposed to make better contact or interlock into the base? i just don't want this beauty tipping over as i sleep or something.

so far tho, this thing is great, haven't even hooked up the dvi yet, thats next.
If you ever have to remove this thing from the base you may not find it easy. It just about had me frantic and furious yesterday. I had to because I have to RMA mine. It came with blotchiness. Something is very screwed up. Aside from the major blotchiness defect I also have major issues with what I guess you'd call backlighting. The screen is much darker on top when viewed from neutral position (at right angles to the center of the screen). I hope it's just mine and that this isn't a trait of this monitor. Comments, please!

Construction is mediocre. The supplied VGA cables are low-end.
The pin to adjust height is just plain stupid.
Power cable needs to be longer.
Stand needs to be stronger (more rigid).
When I'm typing, the monitor wiggles back & forth gently... this is bad
Can't even imagine what it'd be during a deathmatch

Other than that, monitor seems to be okay.

Did some tests with DVDs & WMVHD clips, color repro is so-so.
No ghosting though.

Overall, my 22" NEC CRT was better
If only they made CRT lighter (duh!)
Bigpow, I still have a 22" NEC FP2141SB on my desk. Interested? It's little used, believe me. I haven't used it at all since getting my Planar 19" PX191 LCD 1.5 years ago. I'm replacing the NEC with this L90D+ to sit next to my Planar . Dual monitors, one LCD and one CRT doesn't work at all.

muse, yeah i gave up trying to get it out of the base, seems damn near impossible. good luck with your RMA tho.

as far as the backlight issue you talk of, i don't have any. at a "nuetral angle" it's dead on. i think this is a great monitor, especially for the $

Thanks a ton for this reply. It gives me hope that I won't have that issue with the replacement. I finally did get the thing out of the base yesterday, but not before losing my cool - seriously, I was throwing things, and more than once and cursing the !@#% who designed it. However, I didn't damage anything, although the tabs are defintely scraped up by the screwdriver I used to try to get the tabs unstuck. I can't believe how bad a design that is. I was on the phone with the CSR (hands-free headset on my cell phone) and got instructions on how to disassemble it, but they didn't help much, maybe some. Maybe they were trying (if unconsciously) to discourage people from sending them back. It's safely in the box and ready to ship as soon as they get me my RMA number. For some reason, they don't give them out right away. If I don't hear from them by tomorrow morning I'll call again. Fortunately they do answer the phone. No voice mail, at least with the non-800 number.

My only idea is that there is an option for red hue, also one for blue, and another, IIRC. Is it possible that in making adjustments you inadvertently chose red hue? The instructions are in the manual, which is on the included CD.

Andy Chia, the guy who answers the phone if you call the number on the warranty card (at least the non-800 number) said you pinch the tabs together. IOW, like this: Lay the monitor on a table, screen facing the ceiling. You have two pairs of tabs, one pair on the left, one pair on the right. Pinch with thumb and forefinger either the left or right tabs, together. Presumably, they should release. YMMV, YMMV, YMMV, believe me. I finally did get it separated from the base, but I'm not certain how. The tabs are scratched, very definitely, by the screwdriver I HAD to use in an effort to get the tabs to release from the base. I couldn't for the life of me think of any other way of getting the thing apart, and I figured I HAD to do that to get my RMA.

Don't know if anyone still reads this thread, but the twinkling issue was talked about in the Tom's hardware review of the L90D+. I believe it had something to do with the refreshh rate on black to white color changes being the slow end and when scrolling happens on areas of the screen showing black next to white you get very small areas of ghosting that show up as a twinkle.

<shrug>

Or I am totally wrong.
