Just turned in my old compaq 17" and got my new Samsung 997df, real nice. I set my destop to 1280x1024 85hz. And I went into the nvidia control panel and set the 1024x768 to 100hz (that's what I play my games in). I know that my games are not going to be the same size because of different resolutions. But it's alot more messed up then I thought it would be. Most of the left hand size is gone and the right is alright. Do you think it could possibly be because I have set my hz different in the two resolutions? Any fixes? Thanks

Did you calibrate your monitor for 1024x768? Set your desktop to that size, and calibrate it, then switch it back. It's not everyday you will find a monitor that will sync just right. That is if that's the issue.

I'v had the same compaq 17" for the past three years. Been using 1024x768 the whole time. I guess I'm not used to it or something, my eyes are hurting at 1280x1024 with 85hz. Is the samsung 997df a good monitor? What settings would you guys recommend as far contrast and stuff like that. Never had a flat screen. Thanks

You should have a couple little control buttons on the monitor for setting the screen position and size and probably some other stuff as well. The first time you set any resolution and frequency, you will probably need to center up the screen using those controls. Then the next time you hit that same resolution and refresh, the monitor will remember your previous settings so it will always be in the center.

If your eyes are hurting, you may want to try larger fonts or try playing with the contrast and brightness. It could be that the "stock" settings on your monitor are not what you are used to and are therefore uncomfortable.

I'm running 1600x1200x85 in my 19" Viewsonic, and at first my eyes were a little strained (was running 1280x1024 on my 17") but now they feel fine. Just gotta toughen them up a bit

Good luck!

What is your monitor's default refresh rate for that resolution? I know mine is 60hz at that resloution. Higher is what gives my eyes strain. You would be better running your games at 1280 x 1024 as long as you have a good video card to give you decent frame rates.

You have to adjust the size of the monitor screen for each resolution you are going to use. Either do it as Akuma says or just adjust the screen size by monitor controls when you get into the game.
