I don't have the slightest clue on how to jailbreak my iPod. I've googled but haven't come up with any concrete options. I'm hoping ATOT can lead me the way!

First Apple product I have ever owned, and I'm damned sure it was a good choice.

I just want to hack it!

Was it supposed to be that easy? I downloaded, opened, and clicked the iPod Touch button, and it worked? Is that all?

from what I read ziphone works for iPhone firmware 1.1.4 as well, are there any chances of bricking the phone? From what I read the issues came about right at the firmware update....I'd like to try jailbreaking my phone to see what programs are out there.

thanks.

There is always a chance of breaking your equipment any time you void the manufacturer's warranty. However, ZiPhone is the result of a almost a year's worth of iPhone hacking and works pretty dang well. Took less than a minute on both my phone and my wife's phone, both on 1.1.4. Everything is great

I understand there's always a chance, but i'm glad to hear it worked for you. I'll try it once I get home.

Will it destroy my syncing/calendars/etc?

Once a phone is jailbreaked, is it hard to restore to the original non-jailbreak version? Is it as easy as backing up before jailbreaking and reinstalling the backup?

Actually, I had to unjailbreak mine for an app that wouldn't delete, and it was very easy. If you go to iTunes, just click 'Restore' and it redownloads the firmware and installs it again. It also asks if you would like to backup your iPod. It is simple and effective.

well... I wasn't going to jailbreak my iPod touch but I started looking at all those apps and really wanted to give this a shot. After I've jailbroken my iPod how do I get the apps on the system? I tried the included installer but I have no idea where it puts the apps after you install them?

I wish there was a large tutorial on what I need to install first and such, but I've kind of figured it out. How do I customize the look? I tried installing Summerboard and nothing happens.

Also, I would like to know if anyone knows of a program to convert my AVI files to .mov or .mp4's without losing quality. I have WinAVI -> MP4, and all the videos I transferred look tremendously worse in quality. Should I have it resize them to fit the iPod Touch or what? I just want my videos to look as good as they do on here.

After jailbreaking, go into installer and install these three items first;

BSD Subsystem
Jiggy Runtime
Community Sources

That should give you the backend to get everything running as well as tons of additional programs

Yea.. I'm getting this also, but I have 10 GB free.. so it's a bit odd.

From what I understand, there are 2 separate partitions. 300 MB for the OS and the rest is for iPod.

I don't know what to do though.

Are you on Windows or a Mac?

If Mac, then iSquint or VisualHub will do it. iSquint is free.

For Windows.... i think there is an app called Videora that will get the job done.

I'm on Windows. I tried Videora, and it seems to want to ENLARGE the file. I leave it at default settings, and it decides to jump from 700 mb to 1.6 GBs. The one went from 950 MBs to 2.37 GBs. :

That is AVI to MP4.
