So the back of the box is SLAWQ and not SLB8V. So what am I missing out on now?

I got the OCZ Vendetta 2 with Freeze TIM, P5Q Pro and G.Skill DDR2-1000.

What is my highest possible OC? What would it be if I had the E0 stepping? I was hoping to get 3.5Ghz or even 3.8Ghz that lots of people are getting. I guess it's not worth it to try and return it and get a new one is it?

I can't help being a bit sad

I think most people here (myself included) do not feel you should return a processor because it doesn't overclock like you want it too or because you didn't get a stepping you want... unless you were told you were getting that stepping. As long as it runs at it's rated speed, then it works as it's supposed to, you got what you paid for. Any overclocking is just a bonus. Of course what you decide to do is up to you.

Wow you've got almost the exact same build as mine. Anyways thanks for the reassurance. And you're all correct.

If you read the Intel white papers as to fixes pertaining to the c1 versus the E0 you'll see your not missing much. Plenty of the original cpu's will OC as well or Better than the new 1's. It is pretty much luck of the draw.

Check my sig for my setup, I overclocked to 3.4 effortlessly on stock voltage.

I say keep it and enjoy, Like everyone else has stated. Any overclock you get is a bonus, you didn't pay for it

Also, keep in mind new revision/stepping isn't always a good thing. Intel is not in the business of making better chips for us, it's in the biz of making more profits and that means cost reduction with each new revision. So sometimes it means having new features or more efficient production, but could also mean corner cutting for cost and lowered quality.

It's clear concensus that the crop of Q6600 made after 2Q08 are not nearly as overclockable as the older Q6600 from 2007 and on.

check my sig what I got on my Q9550. @ 3.4, there is nothing to complain about, really =)

iimo dont return it, twiddle a bit with it, see if you can get some little - to - moderate overclock on it, and enjoy the ride

if you get decent air like a tuniq or better, you'll end up being fsb limited on that chip at around 450 no matter what stepping you get...so figure 3.8 as a top end and be satisfied if you're at 3.4 on stock voltage as many others have been.

OP, you'll be fine. Overclock till it hurts, man! I have the so-called 'crappy' C0 stepping of the Core2Duo Wolfdale E8400 that runs at 3GHz stock on a 1333MHz fsb. I've managed to get it a 1750MHz fsb and it's at 3.91GHz now. Not bad, eh?
