really depends on your price range.. if you can give a range then we could make suggestions.. most things sennheiser are great though. I own some Sennheiser HD 212Pro's and they're pretty good, they do the job enough, although the cord on them is kinda ruined, but the great thing about them is they have super mini jacks into each headphone speaker so you can completely replace the wire for about 12 bucks.

i'd like to keep it under 100... fairly under 100 if i can, but i'll pay a little more for quality.

Just like A5 said you could probably pick up a pair of Sennheiser HD280s for 90 bucks or so on the web...

Why not Sennheisers?

Cause anything above hd-280 is opened aired, while beyer is semi-open... Plus, beyer sounds really good IMO.

Never heard of beyer at all... guess I don't have any local stores that sell them.

Xmas present... loved 'em ever since. A kid I know (friend of the family) who went off to college this year stopped by for a visit for the first time since he was back and the first thing he noticed when we sat down for some Halo2 and PGR2 was "OMG TEH HUG0R SUBWO0FER!".

(first time I'd played anything in months... work + grad school is tough!)

I recently went from Altec Lansing 4100 speakers to Logitech Z5500. What a difference! I love mine, and my neighbors don't mind if I crank them up.

I recently bought the Z-2300's (haven't got it yet though)....any opinions on those? I read hte reviews for them, and they were all very favorable.

I really wanted the old Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's, but I can't seem to find them anywhere....plus I got a great deal on the Logitech speakers that I couldn't refuse.

Down in the 2.1 area, Klipsch hasn't updated their set main set in awhile (2002?), while Logitech has actually been releasing new sets...if I had to buy some 2.1s (in the $100 range), I'd get the Z-2300.

The Z-2200 is much better than the Z-2300, unfortunately.

Additionally, the Z-5500 doesn't seem to come with real speaker wire. It comes with pre-attached RCA cables. What is that about? How are you supposed to make it fit the room if you can't use your own speaker cables?

There was a dell deal last week where you could buy these speakers for 208 before tax.

I believe you can still get them for ~214.

How are the 5500s compared to 560's? I picked up my Z560s from Dell for ~$120 a few years back..

Get RCA "extension" cables.

Next month I'm going to be living with a kid who has Z5500s - I myself own Klipsch PM 5.1s - there shall be a glorious battle - I pity our neighbors.

Yeah, right. I'm sure you'd agree it's not nearly as convenient as the Real Deal(tm).

Of course not, but then again, I also don't bother with "compyuter" speaker systems anymore. However, one of my roommates bought some for not too much and used them in his z5300 system just fine.

Mine have real speaker cable, with clips on the speakers. Possibly, you have the original version Z-5500 speakers.

It's quite obvious that you haven't heard the Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's then. They just sound better.

Oh...and the bass is just so much cleaner than the logitechs.

Oh God, take your fanboyism out of this thread.

Klipsch fanboys are nearly as bad as Apple fanboys.

What in the hell are you even talking about, the klipsches are simply much more accurate and clean than the logitechs. Have you even heard both?

If I was going to buy a set of multimedia speakers, it would be klipsch.

Ive heard both (just got the 5500 myself) and compaired to Klipsch, Logitech is much better. You get the decoder, better pod, and can turn it up completly without distortion. Klipsch my pod crackled when I moved the knob, had to turn the bass down at loud volumes or the sub would pop, pod at times acted goffy. When I turn up for loud play it would back off the volume. At to me the logitechs are more eye appealing. OH not to mention made with the newest technolgt. Klipsch speakers when I looked at them for some reason remind me of the bose cheap arse crap. The insides of the sub/amp was filled with hardly any comuter componants and it reminded me of old 70's sty amps with resistors and caps everywhere was very unimpressive. And I am speaking of the 2.1's AND the Promedia set ups.
