9.5 years and 100K is so far beyond absurd it makes me sick. I'm sorry to hear you had to go through all that but I'm sure now you're just happy it's over. Congrats and welcome

Congrats.

I got mine when my dad did about 12years ago, now delays but still took us 3years. I was actually applying to be a citizen a couple years ago but I took a job outside the US for a while so now I have to wait a few more years again.

The back of the green card is the cool part, they have mini engravings of all the presidents.

Congrats on the legal way, sorry it costs so much.

You must have a job that offsets this though.

Read above.

Now, I can concentrate more on my work and look to expand further

zomg!!!111!!!1! you must have cheated on your standardized tests.

ps. where in indoland are you from?

what standardized tests ? I got my Bachelors in Comp Sci from UC Davis over here. Went to high school over here also. Didnt go for job b/c i saw more potential in running my own business.

Originally from New Delhi, India.

Came here when I was 16, went to high school for 2 years, then went to community college for next 2 and then transferred to UC Davis for Bachelors.

There is no way that could have helped me or even apply to me

Congratulations. I've been through this process myself and while it wasn't the quickest process, it was certainly worth it.

Also want to say congrats.

I was naturalized fairly quickly after my father. I was under 18 at the time too. It is a long process that is often times confusing, fustrating, and expensive.

I was lucky in that my father made it a priority. We have relatives who are still waiting to be naturalized.

The attorney just called up my father and told him that my petition/appeal has been approved and we have won the case (the legal way - following immigration laws/procedures). Took ~9.5 long years for this day. My life was stuck for the past 9 years between all the processing times, paperwork, some approvals, some denials, appeals, more processing time, etc. etc.

I couldn't even believe when I got the news. I cannot be more happier. Just a few months longer before I have the actual card in my hand (again, processing time delays)

The automated system still shows my case as pending but most probably, it just needs updating.

Just wanted to share with all of you.

My Family's took 16 years and add to that we had no embassy in my country back then (only a consulate) we had to travel to a country near by about 4 times a year for paper work and so forth it sucked!
So I know what you went through, it takes a lifetime pretty much to get it the legal way.
Congrats anyways

Congrats on getting your greencard. You should be able to use your time to apply for early consideration for citizenship. You should be able to naturalize in 2-3 years?

I don't know how long it took my mom to get her green card (she's a german citizen), but it sure as hell didn't take that long.

But this was 20 years ago.

Congrats

My wife emigrated to the USA and received her green card after 3.5 years.

Unfortunately it expires every 10 years so we're in for an adventure sometime around 2011.

FYI, please application for your naturalization this month. Price of applications will go up 3X. Figure some of you will want to know. My brother is an immigration lawyer and he gave me this information.

9.5 years? That sucks dude, should've come to Canada instead. I applied in September of 2005, and entered the country in May of 2006, PR card in hand. I guess it helped that I married a Canadian citizen, and knocked her up, but maybe it was the bribe of Labatts and maple syrup I sent to the immigration processing center too.

Congrats! I got mine in Sep '02 - only another 2-3 months to go before I can start the naturalization process Why did it take you so long to get your GC though? I know a couple of people for whom it took 5 years just to get the labor clearance and my cousin is in his 6th year of application and waiting at the last stage (I485 approval). I, on the other hand, got my pink plastic card in the mail in under 18 months (Mar '01 - Sep '02) and that was after dilly-dallying for 2-3 months between each stage. I didn't even apply in any special category - just your basic skilled worker (EB3???) - yeah, cookie for me, I know. But I can't understand why the system would be so inconsistent. Some people get it in months, some in a decade

9 years is a long time to put your life on hold, though. I hope you didn't miss out on job/education opportunities because of this. Anyways, good luck to you.
