Here's a video on browser performance on the nexus 10. It illustrates the problems withe chrome, and shows how much better the alternatives work.

Holy ****?! OP, please ignore my dumb suggestion in post #8. Chrome or otherwise, this performance is leaps and bounds above that of Nexus 7. My "tweaks" will not mean much at all if you are not satisfied with that level of performance on a tablet. (I wish I had known and wish Nexus 10 was a bit prettier!)

Considering your dissatisfaction, you may be better served by selling it off and getting back to an iPad, to be frank. I suppose you will not lose out much since Nexus 10 is OOS.

Enable force gpu rendering in developer options. That solved the stutter in Chrome for me.

Or use a different browser, Chome doesn't seem very polished for Android. The AOSP browser was much better.

and Im hating it. Its not anywhere close to the smoothness/fluidity of the Ipad. I've owned the Ipad, Ipad 2 and Ipad 3 prior to my Nexus purchase. Anything I can do to make it more responsive and fluid? Cant return it. A friend got it from the USA. For horizontal orientation, I had to download a app which would then allow me to lock the orientation....

Sorry I call BS. I also own a 1st Gen iPad (32GB GSM) and that was a slow craptastic device. I've also previously handled a Kindle Fire, iPad 2 and a Nexus 7. The N10 is smooth.

Also it depends on the app if it supports horizontal or vertical orientation. For example, the ESPN Score Center app opens up in vertical automatically, even though I was previously actively using it horizontally.

I have no issues with mine.

I've also had an ipad 2 here for the first 2 weeks of N10 ownership. No prior tablet experience, other than 3-4 very short sessions.

Ipad 2 is a consistent experience. It showed weakness when it was crunching like in browsing but the software tended to be only slow and not laggy. I think that's Apple's prime advantage, when ios stumbles (at times it does, despite the opposite claims) it tends to "just" slow down uniformly.

For me, OOTB, N10 was a mixed bag. Chrome annoyed me and while overall it wasn't too bad, some sites like the verge for example, ran terribly laggy. The speedtest app is a joke on Android and unfortunately it's not the only one. I feel like Android overall is now half a step behind ios and the tablet app selection is a big chunk of it. Since then I rooted and installed a rom and a couple of mods. Even before I tweaked the N10, it had sporadic moments when the hardware wasn't obstructed and it's full power was unleashed, it rivaled desktop performance on few occasions.

To the platform agnostic average user, I would recommend the ipad. To the guy that replaces his desktop parts himself and generally likes to tweak stuff, I would recommend the N10. By the time KLP is out things should improve and if Google launches another ~8" Android 1080p/1200p with the N10's specs, I'll be all over it.

I've restored to the factory settings about a half a dozen times and I still can feel the lagginess when browsing youtube, webpages and picasa. Heck horizontal/vertical orientation is also not instant and smooth. The device is running 4.1.2. I've tried boat and dolphin browsers too. Surely they are better than Chrome but I still felt a slowness. Decided to sell it. I've already had a couple of people asking for it. I will get an Ipad 4.
