just got x800xl what is vivo? what can i do with it?

ok this is my first build here....and i just bought a connect 3D x800 xl...it is vivo ...can some one tell me what that is...and what are all of thses extra wires do?....and what is something cool and useful i can do with vivo

video in video out. basically, you can have video come in(form say a vcr or camcorder and you can output video to say a tv.

you can record video from your vcr or camcorder or dvd(non copyrighted works) to your hdd and you can also output video signals ot a TV.(probably with a choice of either standard definition or high def.
For most, it means that Half Life 2 or Call of Duty on your bigscreen with a mouse and keyboard is finally possible and those old family videos on fragile tapes can finally be transferred into digital format.

You can use your desktop on a huge tv instead on monitor, and watch old videos (from video tapes) on your monitor.

interesting' how would one connect to the vivo to say' record vhs or dvr to the computers hardrive, probably alot to explain here' maybe a link to a site that explains this?

it's simple. Vivo has 2 cables
1 for video out and 1 for video in.

it looks like this
............... ________Video in
O----------.<________ Video Out

you connect the vcr's video out connections to the vide in cables and then use asoftware to record the incoming video. the software is likely provided on the cd that came with your card.

what kind of software do i need to record the vidoes.....can i record tv?

you'd have to set up the cables right, but theroetically you can record tv. as for software, idk. never really used vivo too much.

well it comes with what looks like a weird Svideo plug on the video card. plug the Vivo cable into that and there will be 6-12 cables splitting from that plug.there will be a
3 component connections 1 color fro video in(you may not have this if your card dosent support HDTV)
3 component connections another color for video out(you may not have this if your card dosent support HDTV)
1 s video with same color plug as the components for video in
1 s video with the other color for video out
2 audio rca connections the first color for video in
2 audio rca connections ther other color for vidoe out

it's all explained in tthe manual.

to record cable, it would have to be cabl--->cable box--->VCR--->video in calbes since i doubt cable boxes have video out connectors.

That means I can plug in my xbox to my VIVO-card right?

are they usually S-video or composite Video-In connections?

depends if your card supports HDTV. some do most dont. the cables will tell. Almost all have a S Video in and most have RCA Video in.

Oh sorry, I meant RCA, not composite. (RCA = yellow plug?)

I'm just interested in S-Video in for my Xbox.

yes rca = yellow plug and most have 1 rca in and 1 rca out.

My Asus 9600XT has VIVO. I have an S-Video connection running into the card from my DirectTV receiver. Sound runs into the Line In jack on my onboard sound card.
I watch TV on desktop while working and I record stuff like South Park to convert and play on PDA

I got an ATi X800XL and I was trying to look up its specs. So I can assume that it has VIVO as well? Do those Cyberlink software work ok with recording VCR, then transfer to DVD format? Thanks.

well can any one tell me if my connect 3D is HDTV compatible?...and wheres a good place to d/l the software.....mine didnt come with jack...not even good instructions

There aren't any consumer level cards that suppor component in, are there?
