The anesthetic is wearing off, starting to hurt. Hopefully Vicoprofen helps. I tried to change the gauze earlier, the damn clot came out with it

Wet a tea bag (not herbal) and press it into the socket. It the will clot the blood and stop the bleeding.

I thought the worst part was after the pain goes away and you're stuck with gaping holes in your mouth that fill with food. Bleh. :disgust:

I've been there, it's definately no fun
make sure you take the pills that keep swelling down...it helps tons, because as it reduces the pressure of swelling, less pressure=less pain...for me it did anyway. i never even had to take a pain pill, just the swelling stuff. Oh yeah and be prepared to leave the gauze in for about 24 hours, and eat soft food for a few days. Remember though, each person reacts different, some heal a lot quicker than others. You might be a fast healer.

How about Ice? won't that calm the swelling.sorry pal, I know how much it sucks to get your teeth pulled. I hopefully won't have to have mine pulled.

Sleep a LOT. It helps more than anything the first couple of days. After that, use ice for the first few days, and then a heating pad when the doctor says you can.

Did you have to get bone cut out too? I had all 4 taken out as well, but the top two came out relatively (as far as wisdom teeth go) easily. The bottom ones they had to cut through bone to take out. The plus side was, I only felt pain in the bottom teeth because they blanked out whatever might have hurt in the top of my jaw.

Your jaw muscles will be sore for a few days. Prying your mouth open really hurts afterwards. Even if food is soft, don't eat it if it requires a lot of chewing. Applesauce, ice cream, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese are what I lived on for 3 days.

I'm going to have to go through the same thing according to my dentist..

I just hope that when they do it, the nerves won't be connected or something cause of early detection or something. I'll probably be getting it down after school's over though so I don't miss a day, and so I can sleep..

i just had all 4 taken out jan 5...exactly one week later i felt normal again except i have to clean the sockets after eating...i never felt any pain and the bleeding stopped like 4 hours after the surgery...i had to take a total of 41 pills over the course of 6 days, 20 pills were antibiotics, and the other 21 was to keep the swelling down...i never swelled up either since i had ice 5min on/5min off for the first entire day...still cleaning the sockets to this day, which is a hassle...hope you feel better soon, that one week was like hell for me...

I thought having my wisdom teeth pulled was going to suck, but it went very quick and easy. So the three days I got off from work by the doctor's orders were basically a vacation (plus I did this on Wednesday so that I could have five days off in a row!). I never had to touch the pain medicine after a couple of doses the first day but I just slept it all off anyway.

I guess I am a rarity.

Then just after you're over that, they send you the bill to really rub it in. Can't win when you have to get those suckers out

Chiwawa,

Mine grew in pretty normally, none of them were impacted. It was just a hassle to floss and brush all the way back there, so I figured I might as well get them out since I'm in school and our student dental plan paid for it in full.

I had myne taken out just a few weeks ago...Lots of sleep, lots of applesauce, ice packs the first day, warm heated packs after that. The painkillers they presecribed for me made me really sick, so I just took lots of extra-strength Tylenol. Salt-water rinses for a few days were helpful too...they actually felt good (helps the swelling and clear out icky stuff that gets trapped in your mouth) and I didn't have sockets to take care of (maibee my surgeon does something weird, I dunno), but my side and front teeth have been hurting a lot like they used to when I had braces and they were moving them (removing impacted teeth tends to open up space in your mouth, so the rest of your teeth adjust...wish they'd warned me). I was also on antibiotics for a week because of a slight touch of infection, which really sucked...so definitely make sure you brush your teeth gently, use mouthwash, and use the salt-water rinses (I think I used 1 teaspoon in a glass of warm/hot water). I'm goin back today for my final checkup

Good luck...it DOES get better

I had mine out about a month ago, all 4 as well.

The anesthetic wore off before I got home, and I thought I was going to die. The pain was horrible. Once I got home and on the narcotics, I was better. I pretty much lived on drugs for about 4 days. By the 5th day, I was doing half-days at work, then I'd come home and take a pill and sleep the pain away till bedtime.

The key to getting through it was keeping an ice-pack on my face for 3 days straight. I had almost no swelling, and the doctor was rather amazed. Apparantely my 45 min surgery ballooned to over 2 hours due to some complications, and he expected a very difficult recovery. By the 3rd day, any apparant trace of swelling was gone, but the pain stuck around.

I can still feel the holes in my mouth, but you get used to it.

Have a significant other bake you a big pot of mashed potatoes. My wife cooked some for me, and I ate them for quite a while. Since soft stuff is all you can really eat, and most soft stuff is sweet, you'll get sick of sweet stuff eventually. Some really salty potatoes satisfy the need profoundly.

Hope you feel better!
