Just how Important was it for you to be Popular in High School ?

As an adult looking back on all the BS at high school it all seems so unimportant and stupid but back then that's your whole world! Groups and people are defined by their popularity

how important honestly back then was popularity to you ?

for me it was pretty important, not desperately important like it was for some people especially some girls i remember but it has importance

it wasnt. Everyone knew me, cuz i was pretty outspkoen and such, but i didnt care. I would have much rather spent time with real friends, which i did.

well i will be honest here... in my middle school days the fact that i am unpopular really used to bother me. once i became a high schooler tho, i started to care less about it. letsay, there were other things that kept me busy

in my reminiscence, i really i wish i had a girlfriend back in middle school but oh well, the sweet days are gone...

It was toooo important... that's why i got in so much trouble as i did when i was in highschool. But highschool was one of the best times of my life.

I never tried to be popular. I was respected, had some nice friends and always had a girlfriend. I spent most of my time during the last half of high school with this one girlfriend and another buddy with his girlfriend, so we were always busy doing stuff.

To the contrary I loved high school!

I never strived to be popular, but the gossip, and overall immaturity of the student body made it a very annoying place to be for 4 years.

I never fit in with the high school mentality. It still seems that even 3 years later, some people aren't willing to let it go. No, I don't care what Johnnie's doing. No, I don't care who's seeing who. I didn't care before, and I don't care now.

I wish I could go back through HS knowing what I do now that I'm a college grad...

Let's just say it'd resemble a porno, because my shyness kept me from getting more than I should've back then.

Back in HS, though, I considered myself an anti-hero. Anyone with intelligence loved me, and anyone without (including everyone on the soccer team, including the coach) loathed me to no end. At the end of it all, though, I see some of those guys around now and they all confess to me how much they respect me now because I was my own person then.

Shrug, a bit of bad with the good, I guess. I just wish I hadn't been so damned socially awkward as a teenager.

My old friends tell me that their perception of me in high school was that I was cool, popular, hot, whatever. It still amazes me when I run into someone from the past and they say &quot;Oh, I wanted to be just like you!&quot;

The only thing I think I did differently was that I didn't really care about fitting in. A cheerleader friend encouraged me to try out for the squad and I told her 'no, but thanks' even though she was the captain and could have gotten me on. I didn't join any group even though I was involved in band and drama. I had friends from all the different cliques and I appreciated them individually... not because I was part of their group or club.

I guess because it was NOT important for me to be popular, I ended up being popular, but I had no idea that I was popular. Heh, the irony of it all!

hrmm, i was way small in h.s. smart and everything, called a nerd, but I wanted girls badly but it did not happen because of my size. I was like 5' nothin, a hundred and nothing, lol (thanks for the quote, &quot;rudy&quot I liked this girl a lot and she didnt want anything to do with me because i was so small. If I was my size now omg, I would be pullin chicks left and right now that I am 6'1&quot;. It pisses me off sometimes, some of the curveballs that life throws us. Everyone else having sex and all that jazz while I play on my mac all night This girl went on to be in 17 Magazine and I heard like 4 of the guys from our old crew banged her Life is suck.

I hated highschool anyone who has read some of my previous posts knows what crap I put up with.

I was good friends with the cheerleading squad and the jocks hated me becuase of it. I wish I could go back through high school with the knowledge and attitude I have now. it would be a breeze.

Actually I think what helped remove alot of the nonsense from HS was the fact that I went to an all-boys high school. What's funny is that all the girls from neighboring schools wanted us and not the guys in their own school! How wonderful for us. All the guys I hung out with had girlfriends and in general we had a blast!!!!!

Now that I'm closer to 40 than 30 those 3 yrs seem so insignificant I could care less. Any demons that were perpetuated on me or I perpetuated have long turned to ancient memory.
I remember sitting back at the 10 yr reunion thinking I could care less about these people cause the ones I did care about I'm still freinds with today.

Personally, I can't wait for my 10 yr reunion... oh how badly I want to rub my success in their faces. Nothing is better than making your detractors eat crow after you've done all the things they said you couldn't do or made fun of you for aspiring to.

right now i'm not that popular but i'm sort of popular. I have a very cute girlfriend, had sex sunday, and some friends. I stopped using the computer. I'm going to school now. school sucks

Popularity was never really an issue at our HS. There never was a &quot;popular&quot; crowd or a &quot;geeky&quot; crowd. There certainly were groups of friends, but they tended to be broken down into &quot;Christian/Hindus/Rebels&quot; line. Our school was fairly insular, being located in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Wellllll, seeing how I came into my school in the middle of my junior year, making friends wasn't really easy. If I were to do it all over I think I would've done better. Popularity wasn't important to me, I just wanted a couple of new friends. Senior year rolled around and it seemed a lot easier to make friends. Just being yourself will get you noticed, unless you're a boring nut. Some people go out of their way to be popular, I say Bah to that. As long as I have my circle of friends i'm happy.

I was popular - it meant lots of friends, never any trouble with certain groups, but it also meant that there are always a few individuals that decide that true vengence for their problems comes from hating happy people...

I never tried to be popular, people just liked my sense of humor I suppose...

My buddy did that and found it very unfufilling. How you define success and how a lot of others do are two different things.
He makes twice what the teachers do and a lot of them told him he wouldn't amount to much. So he lorded it over them but they looked at his life, no wife no kids still angry. . . . No impact. . .
I was unemployed at the time but had a dynamite girlfriend.
Others perceptions were quite amusing.
Cause I had been making a lot of money before that but no GF, then the 10 yr was different for me. How people looked at you some thought because of the girl I was da sh!t, others poor ah heck don't have a job. Today I have both.
